What is function notation?

Function notation is a way of finding different values of a function, as an example:

f(x) = 5x-1

“f(x)” is actually just y but for function notation it has a special form.

This is a function on a graph.

In this function the pattern is:

f(x) = 5x-1

If you were to input a value into where the x next to the f is, it would cause you to find the y coordinate associated with the x coordinate you put into it.
