1. For the First World War, Canada was automatically forced into the war when Britain declared war against Germany, since Canada was a British colony. Many Canadians were excited to be going to war, because it was an honor to fight for Canada.  But as Canada became autonomous, they were separating from Britain and were no longer obligated to fight for Britain.  Canadians were being affected by the Great depression, so many people were not excited to join the second world war. As tension started to build in Europe, King held a session of parliament to decide if Canada would join the war, he gave a very good speech on the side of declaring war.  The Minister of Justice, Ernest Lapointe gave a speech about conscription won the support of Quebec. The leader of the CCF, J.S. Woodsworth was against going to war.  But the parliament decided that it would be good for Canada to help Britain in the War.

Howes Total War economy was the control of the economy during the war, C.D. Howe was the Minister of Munitions and and supplies.  He told companies what to produce to support the war effort, also he would make companies manufacture goods they had never made before.
  3. Canada was unsure about joining the war, based on the last war Canadians didn’t want to repeat the mistakes they made in the first war.  Canada had used a lot of resources and many men died, but they still found soldiers enlisting to fight in Europe.  With the BCATP and the other joint military Canada would have a good chance of coming out of the war ahead.
