Description:
I chose to recreate the main character from Hunter x Hunter. I chose this character as the show which he is from has been one of my favorites since a very young age. (1) I was able to identify the function necessary to recreate a line by categorizing each of the 10 function we were given based on their characteristics and finding which function shared the same characteristics as the line I was trying to recreate. (2) The part that gave the most difficulty was combining the functions into piecewise functions as this required me to find the inverse of certain functions when the variable did not match. This was especially difficult because there were very few resources explaining how to find the inverse of a function when using functions that were derived from other functions using function notation. (that was a lot of “function” in one sentence) (3) The most notable ‘aha’ moment happened as I was creating the second eye and I realized that by simply adjusting the domains and x-values of the first eye, I could save a lot of time. (4) I used many resources to help troubleshoot problems or even find inspiration. Simply starting was a very daunting task so to see others’ process helped a lot. (5) The strategy that helped the most was keeping my functions organized. I neglected to do this at first and it was only until I organized all my functions that I realized how much time I was wasting. (6) This project has helped me further my understanding in functions and relations as it has forced me, through trial and error, to see the relationship between the values and the line displayed on the graph. I also came to understand the importance of restrictions (domain and range) as without these, this project would have been nearly impossible.
