The Transformations unit in Pre-Calculus 12 has improved my critical and creative thinking, as well as my communication skills. Throughout the unit, we had to challenge ourselves to think creatively to apply what we learned into graphs, and to use mathematical knowledge learned in the past to come up with solutions for specific problems. Drawing graphs requires critical thinking as well, we used our previous experience with standard equations and graphing to fully comprehend the new transformations and reflections of an equation. Different reflections, translations and order of transformations added to our knowledge of transformations learned in grade 11. I asked classmates and teachers for help when I was confused, so I don’t fall behind. Converting the equation to the verbal language of transformations, (m,n) language, replacement language required some quick thinking and full understanding of how it worked. Overall, the transformations unit reviewed knowledge learned from previous math classes, it improved my critical and creative thinking and communication skills through all the new concepts and challenging problems.
