We cut an orange in half, and we traced the circles on to our papers. Then we peeled our orange and using the pieces of orange peel, we filled in the circle as much as possible, without any white spaces. We cut the orange peel into several pieces to fit them all in.

We learned that the surface area of a sphere is : 4π r^2

Because the orange peels filled in exactly 4 circles we traced. The surface area is 4 times the area of the circle.
