1 interphase

the nucleolus and the nuclear envelope are distinct and the chromosomes are in the form of threadlike chromatin.

2 prophase

the chromosomes appear condensed, and the nuclear envelop is not apparent

3 metaphase

thick, coiled chromosomes, each with two chromatids, are lined up on the metaphase plate.

4 anaphase

the chromatids on each chromosome have separated and are moving toward the poles.

5 telophase

the chromosomes are at the poles and are becoming more diffuse. the nuclear envelope is reforming. the cytoplasm may be dividing.

  1. Good work including pictures and descriptions of the complete process of mitosis. Your post is effective in explaining how mitosis works. There is another picture that you could add that depicts late prophase, but all in all, a great post.
