Instagram was first created in 2010 by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger who co-founded the app. Systrom was on the list of the richest entrepreneurs under forty. Krieger and systrom made the app as a check-in app and eventually, it turned out to be a very big success. The photo and video sharing social media app only took eight weeks for software engineers to develop before it was launched October 6, 2010, on apple mobile. As Dan Blystone once said, “The first prototype was an app originally called Burbn which was inspired by Systroms love of fine whiskeys and burbns.” (2020) The first day it was launched it came up with 25,000 users. The app was founded in San Francisco. In the future, they want an increase in diversity and inclusivity, but they would like to keep the app as a photography and videography app. Over the years they have been adding more and more to the app, for example, Shoppable posts, Story stickers, shopping for creators, Instagram checkout, live shopping and music to stories. Instagram makes money from ads. In the article, Instagram Ad Revenues in the U.S., “The annual advertising revenue of Instagram is steadily increasing… Instagram reached 18.16 billion U.S. dollars in annual ad sales in 2021.” (Guttmann, 2020) Instagram was made for people from thirteen years of age or older. Instagram has started many new word trends, for example, OOTD, TBT, Fitspo, Smh, lmao, Yolo and no filter. Systrom resigned as the CEO of Instagram on September 24, 2018. In the article, we finally know why the Instagram Founders really quit, they said “[no one actually knows why systrom and Krieger actually resigned or why it was in such a hurry.]” (Newton, 2019
