Nelson Poetry Song

I must’ve dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But i can hear the marching feet
They’re moving into the street.
Now did you read the news today
They say the danger’s gone away
But i can see the fire’s still alight
There burning into the night.
There’s too many men
Too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can’t you see
This is a land of confusion.
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in.
Ooh superman where are you now
When everything’s gone wrong somehow
The men of steel, the men of power
Are losing control by the hour.
This is the time
This is the place
So we look for the future
But there’s not much love to go round
Tell me why, this is a land of confusion.
This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in.
I remember long ago –
Ooh when the sun was shining
Yes and the stars were bright
All through the night
And the sound of your laughter
As i held you tight
So long ago –
I won’t be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We’re not just making promises
That we know, we’ll never keep.
Too many men
There’s too many people
Making too many problems
And not much love to go round
Can’t you see
This is a land of confusion.
Now this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for.
This is the world we live in
And these are the names we’re given
Stand up and let’s start showing
Just where our lives are going to.
Description
1. This song is about the issues during the cold war and how the USA and USSR were in a head to head race against each other in just about everything. This poem addresses that Ronald Reagan was at times looking like he was considering the nuclear option against the USSR
2. The whole song takes place inside of Ronald Reagan’s dream and he dreams about the issues that were around during the 1980’s and how the news lies to the people about what is really going on and that there is no more war but the song mentions that there is clearly still issues in the world.
3. The poem brings up “My Generation will put things right” meaning that the singer believes that his generation will fix the worlds problems for the most part the song is pretty straight forward in its choice of words and understanding with most lines in the song pointing towards the worlds problems and wanting to fix them.
4.The song is depressing due to the singer, singing how many issues the world has and people lying about how bad they are and that it seems like there is no-one to help, but the song is also hopeful with the singer talking about how its not too late and start trying to make the earth a place worth living.
5. The length of each stanza in the song is on average 6 lines creating a short but descriptive description of the point of the song without losing the smooth rhythm  of the song. The writer of the song uses repetition in the song quite a lot such as his repetition of the name of the song “This Is the land of confusion” and “To make it a place worth living in” which both give it a sense of what the point of the song is (Being unsure of what is happening in this world and wanting to fix the problems the world faces)
