It was a snowy day yesterday; the street was covered by snow, but it still had school yesterday. Tom was very nervous, because his teacher told him and his classmates to prepare a little show for the class, but he didn’t prepare anything. During the class, the teacher started to call the name and asked them to show what they prepared. Everyone prepare the show, except Tom. Some of them prepared a magic show; they changed a rabbit into a dove. It was so good that Tom forgot to be nervous. Then, the teacher called Tom to come to the front. Tom felt ashamed because he didn’t prepare anything. After the show, the teacher gave everyone a candy as a gift but didn’t give one to Tom. Tom’s best friend, John, had a compassion on Tom; so he shared his candy to Tom and also gave Tom a big hug. Tom felt gratitude and said thank you to his generous friend many times.

Character Sketch

The boy, Roger, from the short story “Thank you, ma’am” is a very greedy and conscientious person. He showed he is greedy first when he explained to woman why he was stealing the purse. When the woman asked him why he did bad thing, he said “I want a pair of blue suede shoes.”(12)He didn’t need to snatch the woman’s purse just because he wanted something that he didn’t really need it. Or maybe he needed a pair of shoes, He can’t snatch it. For this reason, Roger is a greedy person. Next he showed his conscience in the last part of the story. After the woman gave the boy some money and let the boy went home, the boy wanted to say something other than. “Thank you, ma’am.”(13) Though the boy didn’t say it to the woman, it showed that the boy knows he was wrong and won’t do it again. The boy didn’t be mad when the woman taught him, this proof that the boy is a conscience person.
