Studio art 3D 11
Week #, Date. Title (projects worked on)
- Brief Overview of what you did this week, including photo documentation of process. Minimum of 3 photos a week
- Your biggest struggle of the week.
- Your biggest success of the week.
- Goal for next week.
Week #1, September 7, 2023. Intro week
- This week I learned what I will be doing in 3D art. I also did a scavenger hunt. Today I made a new Edublog page and posted on it with images.
2. My computer has been very slow loading the tabs.
3.My biggest success of the week was helping others that needed the assistance.
4. My goal for next week is to complete the assignment that is given to us next week.
Week #2, September 13, 2023. Principles of elements
- This week I worked on my project “Principles of elements”. I completed it on Wednesday September 12.
- My biggest struggle of the week is finding images that correspond with each boxes.
- My biggest success of the week is using my extra time after school to complete my work faster then using up more class days to finish it.
- My goal for next week is to stay on task when working on our project “Life on land”. Researching for an animal idea.
Week# 3, September 21, 2023. Life on Land
- This week I started my “Life on Land” project, which meant reaseraching an indangered animal, printing it on a large piece of paper, tracing it and cutting that into a template. Using that template to trace an outline on cardboard to later cut it out and start assembling your animal .
- My biggest struggle of the week was making sure I had enough class time to work on the project without getting distracted by others.
- My biggest success of the week was making my project more complex by adding lots of physical details to my Africa Land Snail.
- My goal for next week is to start the papier mache’ my project.
The African Land Snail is not a threat but it is an invasive species to itself. They are from Sub-Saharan Africa but the snail is commonly found in wet areas such as marshes, riparian zones, forests margins, and agricultural. They could cause severe damages to the crops and ecology of the soil by destroying its habit and consuming fruit, vegetables, leafy-greens, and ornamental plant. It endangered itself by self-sabotaging its environment making its habitat not livable and carrying parasites, intern disturbing the natural ecosystem structure and not making the environment non-livable.
Giant African land snails are illegal because they can damage ecosystems and structures as well as pass disease on to humans. If you own African land snails as pets, its illegal. Transporting them into the U.S and Australia are also illegal. Some species can be kept as pets with a specific license.
A solution to the invasion species of African Land snails would be to contain them in its own ecosystem making it a place for the snail to live without damaging the actual environment. The snail would eventually run out of food but if the snails were observed and being taken care of in one place, would cause less and no damage to the outside ecosystem. A team of specialists is currently destroying around a thousand snails a week, using a bait of iron phosphate. Iron phosphate is a food-based pellet to attract snails and lure them out of their habitats. Besides the snail-picking, the government is asking the public to help with the clean-up, having distributed “most wanted” posters throughout the state.
Fun Fact:
African Land snails have both male and female reproductive system. A fancy word for this is called Hermaphrodites. They mate the “Traditional way” and cannot self-fertilize.
Week #4, September, 28, 2023. Life on land
- This week I added more bamboo pieces to the top of my shell, and started paper mache’ my snail. I took my time my time put one layer of paper mache on at a time, and making sure the layers were dry in between. I started to put the shredded up paper mache on the top of Garry’s shell. I stayed later after school to finished the bottom of his shell.
- My biggest struggle of the week was being sick and that alone makes me feel tired and icky but still trying to stay on top of things, to not fall behind.
- My biggest success of the week is if I had extra time after school, using that to work on the project to stay ahead.
- My goal for next week is to be done the paper mache part and start on the blended paper stuff.
Inquiry project
What would you like to investigate/make as a term-long project?
- Choose a project.
- I am planning to make a mug with the shape of the first mug, with the Jellyfish inside the mug, and the blue glaze on the outside.
- Work out the purpose of your project.
- I want to make something that can be personalize but also practical. A mug can be use for basically anything and it would be a challenging but simple project to start on.
- What challenges might you face in completing your goal?
- The clay might collapse onto itself and i will have to re-do this project multiped times.
Week#5, October 5, 2023. Life on land
- This week I finished covering the whole snail in the shredded up paper mache and it stunk really bad. I added the eyes on the snail and I started to get the ribbon cut for the bottom of him to put the sentences on.
- My biggest struggle of the week, was waiting for my snail to dry. I did the bottom/head and came back the next day and it was still pretty damp.
- My snail is starting to come to life, and you can really see how Gary is going to turn out looking like in the end.
- My goal for next week is to start patching some holes I may have caused and paint Gary.
Week #6, October 12, 2023. Life on land
- This week I haven’t really worked on Gary that much because I’m not totally sure what’s the next step for Gary, but I did write some threats and solution to put inside of Gary and I did another thin coat of the white paste.
- My biggest struggle of the week is not knowing what’s the next step for Gary because Mx. Vittie was gone.
- My biggest success of the week is working on other things well waiting to do the next step for Gary. Working on the solutions and threats, and painting a picture for fun.
- My goal for next week is to start painting and attempting to work on my inquiry project. Starting to practice getting the clay started.
Week #7, October 19, 2023. Life on Land
- This week I have added more of the white paste on the slimy part of Garry, and added some texture to that by apply it with the end of a big paint brush. I started to paint Gary shell a purply color and the body of him, tan.
- My biggest struggle of the week is only getting one coat of the paint completed, because it takes a long time to dry in between coats.
- My biggest success of the week is having the strings attached to Gary’s butt and having it all sealed down with the white compound.
- My goal for next week is too be completed the painting for Gary, and stated on my inquiry project.
Week #8, October 26, 2023. Life on Land
- This week I started painting my snail a darker shade on the bottom. Going from darker shades to lighter shades on top. The texture I did on the bottom of the snail really added some great texture, and the different colors on the bottom make the snails bottom pop. I started to fix the shell on Gary, making a darker purple as the base coat and working my pop of colors on top. In the pictures though, the color looks black.
- Your biggest struggle of the week is waiting between coats to let the paint dry. I’m only getting one layer of paint in a day unless I stay after school to work on Gary.
- Your biggest success of the week is helping others that need that support. Especially Rosy.
- My goal for next week is to be done Gary shell and to start writing way he is endangered on the strings that is attacked to his bottom.
2 SIDES OF ME PURPOSE
Week #9, November 2, 2023. Life on Land
- This week I added more detail to Gary’s shell. Meaning I put white paint on a fan brush and drew streaks on it to make the shell have more texture. Adding colored paint on top with some clear acrylic media adds the see-through look to put on top of the white textured paint. Adding different colors of brown, purple, and pink.
- My biggest struggle of the week is letting the paint dry between the coats. It takes a long time to wait and dry.
- My biggest success of the week is when each time I work on Gary, he is looking more like a realist snail each day.
- My goal for next week is to be done with painting his shell and finish writing the things that make him endangered on his strings. I would also like to start on my inquiry project.
Inquiry project
What would you like to investigate/make as a term-long project?
- Choose a project.
- I am planning to make a portrait of a woman’s body and the color of the skin tone on the body is going to be thermal energy colors. The body is going to look like its glowing with the vibrant colors showing the heat.
-
What do you need to get started?
- Work out the purpose of your project.
- The purpose of the project is to work on proportions and color theory.
How will you begin the project?- What challenges might you face in completing your goal?
- The paint taking a while to dry in between coats and the vibrances of the colors not showing up correctly.
Title of work: “Boobies” LolMedium: Acrylic PaintDate: November 7, 2023Artist Name: Taryn AllanArtist Statement:1) I chose to draw and paint this because one day a couple of us started to draw it for fun and I just kept going with the process. It took a while to do because I was doing this painting within my actual assignments. 2) The same design was the same but i had to make a couple of minor changes to the painting, so the proportions weren’t off. The left chest area was suppose to stay on the body but to me the portions looks funny so I had to change it. I also added some drying black paint splattered on the background to add some pop to the background. It was very boring before before I added this, and now it looks more balanced.3) I learned the most from making this project that layers is very important. I needed at least 3 layers for this painting not to look sea-through. And if you painted a section and accidently get it on another section it was very hard to remove it without it getting into the other paint. Sometimes I would remove that paint with water but it would just leave a clear residue and not look very nice.Week #10, November 9, 2023. Life on Land
- This week I added some texture and pigments that give Gary his colorful shell. I used a fan brush to put white paint on Gary’s shell, making it look like it has some texture. Putting colored paint mixed with clear acrylic media makes the shell look like a see-through glassy look achieving a more realistic look.
- My biggest struggle of the week is starting my inquiry projects. Getting the material collected and planning out, on how I’m going to start it.
- My biggest success of the week is completed Gary. .
- My goal for next week is to start on my inquiry projects and update my Edublog.
Week #11, November 16, 2024. Life on Land
-
- This week I glued Gary’s eyes back together again, because before his eyes were cracking. I used white glue to reattach them together, and then i went over that with some paint to cover the glue.
- My biggest struggle of the week is reattaching Gary’s eyes with white glue, and using a blow dryer to reconnect the pieces together.
- My biggest success of the week is actually finishing Gary and starting others projects in art.
- My goal for next week is to start start another inquiry project and start my unseen and seen project

Week #12, November 23, 2023. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I started my 2 sides of my clay mask by making a ball out of newspaper and taping it all together. I then covered it with a damp paper towel and placed my rolled out clay overtop. Within the days I added the noses, eyes, little details to the face. I added some wrinkles on both of the animals and started some detail.
- My biggest struggle of the week was keeping the clay most and damp while working on it.
- Mt biggest success of the week is using my time wisely by working alone by myself, so nothing or nobody can distract me.
- My goal for next week is t start another inquiry project and to keep working on the 2 sides of me clay mask.
Collaborative Studio Maintenance Project
1. Studio Maintenance Identification– Identify a section of the clay studio that requires maintenance and take a photo of it. What is the name of the item, space, product, or tool? What is this item, space, product, or tool used for? What does it look like, versus how it should look like.
For this project Rylee and I decide to partner up with Sophie and Aidan to clean and organize the hot glue station each day. This space is called the the hot clue tower and we would organize the scissors, wind up the hot glue guns cords, line the rolls of tape nicely etc. We use this space for everything, need to glue something, tape something, cut something out. Everything!!! The space sometimes looks like this: But it should really look like this.
2. Division of Tasks and Process– How will you collaboratively maintain this area? Who will do what? Take process images of the maintenance going on. This maintenance will be upkept for the remainder of the term. At least 1 photo per week of you and your team doing work, added to your Edublog.
1 person from each pair would work together to wind up the hot glue cords, while the other 2 pair fix the scissors and tape and make sure the glue sticks and put back into the bag.
3. END OF TERM Completion of Maintenance– Once you have maintained an item, space, product, or tool, take completion images. How has the maintenance of this item contributed to the classroom or environment? Make an Edublog entry titled END OF TERM completion of maintenance so that Vittie knows where to find this additional info.
Week #13, November 30, 2023. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I continued working on my 2 sides of my clay mask by adding some of the features that the animals have. On Tuesday we did a color experience, by making color with the traditional primary colors and the new magenta and cyan color wheel. We also started our pigments charts/color wheel assignment. I worked on my 2 sides of me clay mask. I added some details to the sloth part of the face.
- My biggest struggle of the week was making sure the water colors didn’t bleed together.
- My biggest success of the week was finishing the pigment charts/color wheel assignment by this week.
- My goal for next week is to finish the clay part in my 2 sides of clay mask project.
Week #14, December 7, 2023. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I worked on painting my clay worms for my inquiry project. I painted them pink, then glazed them with acrylic media. I continued my 2 side clay mask and did my collaborative studio maintenance project.
- My biggest struggle of the week was staying on task and being able to complete something in the block that we had.
- My biggest success of the week is being able to take responsibility for the lost work that wasn’t completed in class and staying after school to finish it.
- My goal for next week is to be done the clay part and start the painting and other details on the mask.
Week #15, December 14, 2023. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I worked on the Collaborative Studio Maintenance Project and my 2 side clay mask. I finished my 2 sided mask and now its air drying to be bisque fired when all the moister is gone. I did my edublog post a couple days ahead of Thursday so on Thursday I could get more work done.
- My biggest struggle of the week is was getting work done on Friday because we had to go to the Spoken Words.
- My biggest success of the week is completing my inquiry project, and taking my 2 side clay mask out of the kiln.
- My goal for next week is to paint and add other materiel to my 2 sides of clay mask.
Week #16, December 21, 2023. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I worked on my collaborative Studio Maintenance project and my 2 side of clay mask. I made some Christmas cards for some family members. I priced my artwork and cards for the Christmas sale and made copies of my cards for my family. I laminated some bookmarks that I made for the Christmas sale.
- My biggest struggle of the week was getting art done when i had to study for tests in that block and after school I would work on science or something other than art.
- My biggest success of the week is finishing Christmas card in time for the sale and Christmas.
- My goal for next week is to have a nice winter break 🙂
Week #17, January 11, 2024. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I work my 2 sides of me clay mask. I started to paint one of the sides. I chose to start painting the seal side because I though it would be an easier side to start with. I made the colors greyish-blue. I changed my mind many times to find the right colors I wanted and the right design. I finished that side and then I started on the sloth side. This was a trickier side because it has a lot more detail and cracks too paint into. I started painting with one color, hated it, so I changed it. That was horrible too. I just tried to find the best option. The method to painting this side was the same method I used for Garry shell. I started to paint the face white then had a great idea to blend the colors together. It started to look good and so I kept going with this method to make it look like there was some texture on it. The colors for this side is brownish-yellow.
- My biggest struggle of the week was getting most of the painting work done in class, because there was other things I was doing in that class (not art related)
- My biggest success of the week was getting most of the painting done this week
- My goal for next week is to be fully completed done with the painting portion and start on the artist statement. Maybe even get another inquiry project done.
Week #18, January 18, 2024. 2 Sides of Me Clay Mask
- This week I didn’t really do much. I fixed up the sloth side to add more detail and texture in the face. I added some lighter and darker colors in the nose so it looks less flat. We got a hand out from the substitute to figure out the riddles. I completed about half of it, because the other half we couldn’t figure out. I finally got around to paint the eyes on both sides of the mask. I love how I switched the eyes color from each of the body colors
- My biggest struggle of the week finishing up my 2 sides of me clay mask because the time was running out and I had other things to complete.
- My biggest success of the week handing in all my assignments, and doing every Edublog day. Never missing one.
- My goal for next week is to have a fun Monday and start the new semester on a good foot.
Artist Statement:
- For this assignment we needed to create a mask that has 2 sides of yourself. One side that is seen on the outside by others, and one that maybe you just know about or don’t show as often. I chose to do those 2 characteristics on being creative and an introvert. The creative side of me is the seen trait and being an introvert is my unseen trait. I chose a seal to represent my creativity side and the sloth to show my introvert side.
- Some materials I used to accomplish this project was clay and various tools to sculpt and carve the face. The method I used to attach clay onto my face was doing scoring and slipping to blend the two pieces of clay together. Once the mask was completed, it needed to go into the kiln to be bisque fired. Once that was cooled off, I started to paint it with acrylic paint. That was a long process as I had to blend color together, well making sure the paint didn’t dry up too quickly and also make sure I had enough of that color to make sure I didn’t have to re-make it over again, causing the shades to be a bit different. Overall this project took a while, but I can say that the end results turned out better than I envisioned.
