Discussion: What are your early impressions of the first 1/5 of the book? What is the setting and how is it portrayed? Is the setting relevant to the story? How would you describe the protagonist? What words would you use to describe them? Evidence?
Wednesday- Reflection with Free Write, presentations, an Idea-agram
- Free Write- choose ONE
- what did you “notice” yesterday? Write a descriptive paragraph using sensory details
- What made you think yesterday? Give details and examples

Monday- Solidify your inquiry question+ Read
- Finish researching your author (let’s skip the creative process- we are going downtown instead :))
- Inquiry question. Focus your question into one that touches on some big topics in your novel. The question must be approved by me. Write it down in your visual journal. Remember- researchable, appropriate for age and scope, no Yes and NO answer, lots of answers
- The Marrow Thieves– survival, family, dystopia, culture (importance, heal or restore), elders, community, land, residential school legacy
- Son of a Trickster– coming of age, substance abuse, intergenerational trauma, family, culture (impact, importance, healing), impact of colonization, humour
- Indian Horse– community, land, residential school, sport, trauma, substance abuse, healing, racism, assimiliation
- Dream Wheels– trauma, land, healing, family, community, sport

Friday- Reading and Author Background
- Begin reading your book!
- Divide your book into five parts. Each Wednesday you need to have read 1/5 of the book. The whole book must be read by Nov. 16th.
- Author background- we will start looking at the author’s background today but will continue on Monday.

- Go over paragraph assignment. Begin writing AFTER you have organized your ideas in the chart. Paragraph is to be on TEAMS AND printed and in my hands at the beginning of class on Tuesday. You can use the library printer at lunch- not during class!!
