Spoken Word – “Why YouTube needs to fix their censorship and demonetization”

https://youtu.be/ZpuVzyD-y3E

(Pretty ironic that I am using YouTube to post the video)

First I started by thinking what I can rant about for 3 minutes and is technology related, which is why I chose why YouTube needs to fix its censorship and demonetization. It is something that I have wanted to rant about for a while so this project was a blessing. After finishing the script in about 30 minutes I moved on to procrastinating for 3 days until the weekend which is when I recorded it at home. Then I proceeded to procrastinate some more until Remembrance Day which is when I edited it. After editing it I spent way more time than I should have trying to find a way to make my video fifty megabytes or less so I could put it on my edublog. After wasting my time I realized I can just upload it to YouTube and put it as unlisted then just copy and paste the link onto my edublog.

The Eddy Article – “The gamer’s club Smash Bros. Ultimate qualification tournament is going to be unique this year”

The gamer’s club Smash Bros. Ultimate qualification tournament is going to be unique this year?

The Smash Bros. Ultimate tournament to get on the smash team is starting in under a month in the gamer’s club room, and the contestants are raring to go.

By Sebastian O’Brien

Not much is known about how the tournament is formatted this year. All that is known for certain is that the tournament to get on the competitive Smash Bros. Ultimate team will be different from every other year.

When asked about the format of this year’s tournament, Brendan Pellant, gamer’s club member since 2019 and admin of the gamer’s club Discord server, mentioned that the format of the tournament this year will be different as in there will be team fights instead of individual fights.

Since not much is known about this year’s tournament one could use what is known about last year’s tournaments to guess the format of this year’s. The format of last year was as follows: people in the club sign up on an online form in order to participate in the fight they; would not just show up and start fighting in the tournament, the number of rounds depends on the number of contestants, each round is 3 stocks (lives) and 7 minutes, and the top people from the qualification tournament make it onto the competitive team.

Everything would most likely stay the same except for the rules of each round. due to the new tournament having something to do with teams, the rules of each round would most likely change to have more stocks and/or time; due to there being more people in each round, meaning there would be more people to eliminate which would take more time.

This entire article is based off of information from previous tournaments from the past year(s), so nothing is set in stone, and everything is subject to change so please take it with a grain of salt. “I am not the person that organized the tournament, so nothing is 100% for certain” said Mr. Pellant soon after the interview.

Indigenous Podcast – “Disappearance”

For this project we started with finding an indigenous woman that has not been the topic of someone else’s podcast. Eventually, we found Linda May Scott and we started researching her story and finding out as much as we can about her disappearance and possible murder. Then, we put all the raw information into three sections. After we had all the raw information we put the most important parts into bullet points in the format of a script. After finishing the script we did the podcast cover and started putting everything into a blog post draft. When everything else was ready, we recorded the podcast and edited it in Audacity. After that, we double checked that we had everything done and put the podcast audio into the blog post and posted it. During the making of this project not only did we learn about missing and murdered indigenous women, we learned many different things such as: how to use Audacity, how to format and record a proper podcast, and how to make a podcast cover.

Writing Type Practice

Hyper-intelligent chimp gets angry, lashes out at local kids.

Sebastian O’Brien

Last week, a monkey with intelligence enhancing implants throws clay, does inappropriate gestures, and writes obscenities on the window of his pen directed towards local school children and one teacher.

Hyperintelligent chimp named Sly is doing pottery in his pen when suddenly some local schoolchildren approach his pen and bang on the glass, startling Sly. Sly then proceeds to throw the vase he was working on at the children and uses the smeared clay to write SSA on the glass.

The handler in charge of Sly, Vern Davis, was ordered by Chairwoman, Delilah Miller, to take away Sly’s clay indefinitely. Sly is now being monitored closely to prevent any further incidents.

Media Research Assignment

4chan

4chan was created by Christopher “moot” Poole in 2003. Poole used the open source code of a similar Japanese site called 2chan, and translated the Japanese text to English using AltaVista’s Babel Fish online translator. 4chan was originally made as the unofficial English counterpart to 2chan. It’s first boards, which is what the subforums on 4chan are called, were created to post pictures and discuss anime. But, as an associated press on New York Post puts it, “the site grew well beyond anime and manga” (2014). The reason for that is because on 4chan the boards are used to talk about different things with complete anonymity. Which some people take advantage of to say absolutely anything and everything they want to say, be it debating what coffee is best, or asking what chainsaw brand cuts through turkey bones best. “Clicking on the… /b/ [board] will take you to a place very far from the polished vacation photos on Instagram and the adorable baby snapshots on Facebook” (Associated press 2014), and they are right for one big reason. The /b/ board allows one to do, and say, practically anything on it as long as it does not break the law, which is why the /b/ board is the most used board on 4chan. Since people use the /b/ board to discuss bizarre and inappropriate topics, it is the main reason lots of people hate 4chan and want it taken down. So in summary, what is 4chan? Caitlin Dewey describes it perfectly “4chan is a series of wholly anonymous, anything-goes forums” (2014).
