1984 Setting

Physical:

1. He was in a narrow street, with a few dark little shops, interspersed among dwelling-houses.

2. It was an enormous pyramidal structure of glittering white concrete, soaring up, terrace after terrace, 300 metres into the air.

3. A world of steel and concrete, of monstrous machines and terrifying weapons

Emotional:

1. Even through the shut window-pane, the world looked cold.

2. A kilometre away the Ministry of Truth, his place of work, towered vast and white above the grimy landscape.

3. It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen.
