Week 2 – Geometric Sequences

A geometric sequence is formed by multiplying each term after the 1st term by a constant, to determine the next term. The constant is the common ratio (r).

3, 6, 12, 24, 48,…

To find the common ratio: \frac{tn}{tn-1}      \frac{6}{3} = 2

The common ratio of this sequence is 2.

To find any term in a geometric sequence, we use the formula t_{n}=ar^{n-1}

For example,  t_{10}=3*2^{9}

t_{10}=3*512      t_{10}=1536
