Math 10 – Week 12

Something I learned this week is how to find the rule to complicated T-charts (table of values). To do this, you first need to find the difference between one row and the next. After that you need to turn the numbers you got into a fraction (y over x preferably) and fully simplify it. Your result should be \frac x1. With this, you multiply your x value to the top number of your fraction and subtract or add to the number to make it match with the y value. If this works for all of the numbers on your T-chart then you did it correctly.

Ex.

Difference between 3 and 10 is -6. Difference between 31 and 103 is -72. \frac {-72}{-6} = \frac {12}{1}

3 \cdot 12 = 36 - 5 = 31

9 \cdot 12 = 108 - 5 = 103

-4 \cdot 12 = -48 - 5 = -53
