Week 1 – Math 11 – Squares & Cubes

As the semester just started, we haven’t really done much other than review, but there were a couple things I learned more so relating to terminology and some other things.

The first thing I learned was the name of the number in the square root. I never really thought about it, but I never did know what the number in the square root was called.

\sqrt {169} 🡨 This number in case you couldn’t envision it in your head.

This number is called a radicand.

The second thing is something that should be obvious, but I didn’t know until this week. There are higher levels of square roots such as cubed roots for example. This makes complete sense, but it never really came to mind for me like with the other thing I learned.

\sqrt [3]{729}

\sqrt [7]{2187}

This makes me start to wonder, what would square roots beyond the power of 3 be called?
