Math 10 – Week 5

We started polynomials this week and since we just started, it’s pretty much only been review so far. What I learned/was reminded of this week was the names of parts of a term.

Coefficient: The number before a number with an exponent.              Ex. 5x^3 (5 is the coefficient)

Leading coefficient: The first coefficient in a polynomial.                             Ex. 3x + 7y^2 (3 is the leading coefficient)

Variable: any missing number that’s replaced with a letter.                        Ex. 3x (x is the variable)

Constant: Any number that is by itself in a term.                                               Ex. 4y + 3 (3 is the constant)
