For this assignment I decided to interview my mom who is a general manager at a Tim Hortons in Burnaby. I chose to interview my mom because I was slightly interested in what it’s like to work in a fast-food industry. I could’ve asked someone else, but I feel lots more comfortable interviewing someone that I’m very close to. Doing this interview has made me learn why my mom comes home frustrated sometimes and what it’s like to work in a fast-food industry like I said. Since we live in the same house, I just needed to talk to her to interview her.
For the interview, I asked her to answer these questions:
Why are you passionate about your job or role?
She said that what she likes about her job is that she gets to meet many different kinds of people (ethnicity, race, religion, names). She sometimes tells us stories of people she met and their interactions with each other.
What obstacles have you faced to get to where you are today?
The biggest obstacles she said she had were the people with crappy mentalities that tried to drag her down no matter how hard she tried. What they said never meant anything to her standing because her boss knows how hard she works, but the feelings that were hurt from their words were what she said made her the most upset.
What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you’re doing?
Her best advice that she said she could give was that you should “Like what you do”.
Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?
She said that there would be no reason for Riverside students to contact her because she works at a Tim Hortons in Burnaby.
What do you do at your job?
She said that she is a manager, so therefore she manages things. She takes care of Customer service as well as hiring, training, and setting up a safe environment for the staff.
What is tough about your job?
She said that the tough part about her job is dealing with the aggressive and difficult customers.
Here are some pictures I asked her to take of her workplace:
