Digital Footprint

After searching my name multiple times, I never found any results of anything relating to me. To others, my digital footprint would be non-existent. Even when I tried searching my usernames for relevant social media platforms, I found nothing.

Questions:

  1. 1 way my digital footprint could affect future opportunitiecould be, if I’m looking for a job and I have pictures online of me doing things I shouldn’t or things that are irresponsible, my employers could think that I’m that kind of person and not hire me as a result. The second way would be for another student to find it and blackmail you into doing things that you really shouldn’t without thinking of the harm it could put on your life and personal image.
  2. The first strategy I would use to keep my digital footprint appropriate and safe would be to keep any irresponsible or inappropriate pictures to myself and not post them to any social media platform where other people could see it. The second strategy would be to only do these inappropriate/irresponsible things with people you fully trust. The third strategy would be to just avoid doing things like that to keep your public image intact.

  3. I didn’t learn too much about my own footprint, but something I would tell other people to keep their footprint safe would be to keep everything private and only reveal it to people you really trust. I may not have any personal experience with this to reinforce this claim, but I know someone that has had his reputation ruined and lost all of his friends because he had an opinion that most people found to be frowned upon and he decided to share to the public instead of keeping it to himself.
