What I Have Done
1. What are some things you have learned and/or tasks you have accomplished this quarter?
Some things I have learned this quarter while being a part of the Tech Team include how to use the Cricut as well as the 3D printer. This tool and demonstration has helped me as I was given an opportunity to actually use the Cricut through making T-shirts for a club. I have also been introduced to new applications and tips for my computer that have come in handy for projects and for organizing my OneDrive. For example, I learned about the website Canva and used it to make a visual resume for my CLE class and a presentation for my Spanish class. I also cleared out my OneDrive and put everything into a folder which has greatly helped my organization.
2. What are some things you have been involved with supporting the school?
Some things I have been involved with for supporting the school through the Tech Team include giving a PowerPoint presentation to two-stream classes. This Powerpoint included useful information for students that will help them with future projects, organizational skills and learning new tools.
3. What aspects of your work are successful? Explain why.
Aspects of my work I find successful include being thorough and critical. I try to think of any possible thing that I can contribute to my work and how I can better it for the future. It is important to me that I learn from mistakes and improve on them as well. Another aspect of my work I find successful is asking for help or feedback when needed from a fellow classmate, friend or teacher. This lets me get different opinions and thoughts to reflect on and helps me form new ideas.
4. What aspects of your work are challenging? Explain why.
The challenging aspects of my work include balancing all my work at once while trying to maintain good mental health and a healthy lifestyle. This is something I struggle with because I get stuck on certain details and as well spend too much time in one area. I as well find it hard to fit in time for myself and I end up neglecting it which negatively affects me and my health. Moving on, another aspect of my work that is challenging is how I get hung up on little details that won’t have a lot of impact. I have always been one for attention to detail and I find it difficult to let go of certain things. Lastly, I find it difficult to speak up during meetings and discussions because it intimidates me and I’m scared to say the wrong thing.
5. What steps did you take to overcome these challenges / what adjustments did you need to make?
There are multiple steps I took and am still taking to overcome these challenges and adjustments I am making to better my work. This involves setting out specific times for schoolwork, physical activity and sleep. This has made a vast difference and has been made a positive difference in my physical and mental health. Another adjustment I have made is to focus on the bigger picture of an assignment and check I am meeting the criteria rather than spending too much of my energy on small details. I continually remind myself that it is not worth stressing over and won’t make a lot of difference if I have it another way. Although it takes time to fully adjust to these changes and overcome these challenges, it has been moving forward and making good progress.
6. Is there anything you can do to improve?
To improve, I can contribute to more discussions in meetings and voice my own opinion on various subjects that come up. I think this will get me more involved and connected with other members of the Tech Team and allow me to offer a different perspective.
What Riverside Can do to Improve:
I think something that can be done to help support students better, is to further educate teachers on new technology and tips for computers. This can help them help students better and quicker when technical problems arise with students’ computers. This will also eliminate the number of students coming for help at The Wave. As an example, when the wifi is having difficulty connecting to a student’s laptop, teachers can be equipped with the proper advice to help them immediately. This is something I have noticed to have happened a lot (or at least in my own classes) and could possibly be a simple and easy fix. My personal feedback on how the Tech Team is supporting the school is all positive. The PowerPoint presentation during Stream on useful advice, applications and websites was well put together and engaging as the members of the Tech Team were the ones presenting. Even if this only got a few students participating in practicing these tips, it made a difference and students know where to find it on the Riverside website.
