Safety First Visual Guide – Rees Racho

Safety Guide on 9 different areas:

Fire;

Make sure there are no flammable objects in the microwave when using it

Make sure flammable objects are not near the element on the stove

Burns and Scalds:

Pull up sleeves when cooking

make sure dangling hair is nowhere near the heat because it could catch on fire

Chemicals:

Make sure not to combine cleaning chemicals because it could create deadly gas

Make sure to label all chemicals to prevent using the wrong chemical for cleaning

Slip/Trips/Falls:

Clean up spills quickly

Make sure shoe laces are tied and apron is tied

Cuts:

Make sure when cutting to use the ‘claw’ finger positioning

Always cut away from yourself

Heavy lifting:

Lift with your knees

If something is too heavy or awkward to carry have someone help

How to prevent food poisoning:

Make sure to clean your hands after using egg or raw meat

Do not use the same container for cooked meat and raw meat, same with eggs

Waste management:

Learn what can and ant go in the compost

Use your compost bin in your unit so you don’t have to keep going back and forth to the big bin

Personal Hygiene:

If you’re sick stay away from food or wear a face mask

Make sure your hands are clean before you touch any food

November/ December Lab Reflection – Rees Racho

Spanakopita’s

For me, this lab had perfect timing. It was a cold afternoon but me and my girlfriend could eat these warm treats on the way to my house, she enjoyed them more than me but they were still good. Working in my new group with two quiet girls instead of Jaiden or Luc is different but it for sure means more labs are going to go smoothly with less mess-ups. This lab was the first one that showed me the girls in my group don’t really talk so I have to bring up a conversation saying what everyone should do that day or ask them what part they would like to do. We worked well and nailed the lab but I kinda missed having one of the guys in my group so I wandered to their groups and talked a bit. I’m not sure i’d do this lab again because i’d rather spend my time making some warm cookies or something but overall the Spanakopita’s were a success and a good lab.

October Lab Reflection – Rees Racho

I’m choosing the Quick Rise Buns lab because I enjoyed doing it and it tasted good in the end. The process of making the buns was fun because you made everything into little balls and then cut them into different pieces and shapes. The soup i didn’t enjoy and none of my group ate it but it was also fun to make. In the end i was also the only one who actually ate the buns because we slightly burnt them but i personally thought they tasted great. If i were to do this lab all over again id make more buns (cause more food is always good), stay on task a bit more, not burn the buns and skip the tomato soup because it wasen’t appealing.

Rees Racho – September Reflection

Angel Food Cake Lab:

This lab was very interesting because it didn’t fully work out. The start of the lab with all the mixing and ingredients went fine. When we put our angel food cake in the oven it was one rack too high so our cakes burnt even though we put it in for the suggested amount of time. Me and Luc were very excited for the angel food cake because we both love it and burning it was a bit disappointing but we still found it funny. The insides of the food was fine and tasted great but the outsides were a bit too crispy for enjoyment. Because of this Mr. Brett (you) gave us the dem angel food cakes and we decorated those. The liquidy strawberries were a bit difficult to shape and move to what we thought looked good but I think my end product looked presentable. If we were to do this lab again i’d make sure that the oven rack isn’t too high up so our food doesn’t look like chocolate cake rather than angel food cake again.

Junk Food Assignment – Rees Racho

You can get A&W root beer at either A&W fast food joints or just at a grocery shop in the pop aisle. I love the taste and so whenever we have it in the house or i’m offered it at a friends house it doesn’t last long in front of me, this goes for all root beer but especially A&W’s root beer

Reasons why it is bad for me include:

  1. It has artificial sweeteners such as Acesulfame Potassium which have health concerns because they are linked to being carcinogenic (possibility to cause cancer)
  2. 170 calories in a 12oz pop can which i can easily drink with a meal, if i don’t stop myself from drinking more than one can (for example when i’m playing D&D with friends) i will drink as much as is given to me which is usually much more than just one can

Math Journal #2 and #3 – Rees Racho – June 4th 2017

#2 Journal – Question #7 page, 567

1) This question involves getting a question and finding how to graph it onto a grid. Ex: put y = 2x – 4 onto the graph provided

i found this problem easy because it didn’t have many big numbers and was pretty straight forward, this goes for the whole question of number 7. The one part in this question that took me a bit longer is plotting it in a domain and range but i still got that with relative ease. Math problems with plotting the slope y-int form are not a challenge for me and i can do the further ones that are given to me.

2) The x-intercept is where the function intercepts the x-axis. The y-intercept is where the function intercepts the y-axis.
When you look for the x-intercept given a equation, you set y = 0 then solve for x. Why is that?

you set the y-axis to 0 because that means all you’re left with is the x-axis and it requires no further factoring.

#3 Journal – Question #8 page, 605

This question states: After 7 days of heavy rainstorms, the water level in a river peaked at 2.85m above the regular level. Four days later the water dropped to 2.25m above the regular level. Assuming the water level falls at a constant rate, determine a function h(t) which describes the height of the river above regular level as a function of time. Take t = 0 at peak water level

This question made me think to begin with but from previous knowledge i knew that i had to find the slope first and put it into the equation

This question took me a while to wrap my head around and i had to look at the answer to find out if i was truly right but after a while i got it, further questions like this might be a bit of a struggle for me in the future.

May Reflection – Rees Racho – June 2nd 2017

lasagna Roll Ups

I chose this lab because it was both fun to do and tasted great in the end. This lab was fun because it required you to do things without and not a lot of waiting (except for day 2). Things such as adding all the lasagna insides onto the pan and cooking that then rolling up the noodles, there was always things to do. In the end our product turned out great and tasted great (but i was also very hungry so my taste might’ve been skewed). The only problem that we ran into was that some of our noodles either had cracks in them or just had parts missing, this resulted in a few poorly rolled ones but it didn’t overall affect things too much. My group worked well together and just had a few distractions but that only resulted in a small amount of lost time, nothing too much. If we were to do this lab again the only change id want to make is make more rolls because the more the merrier.
