Safety Guide on 9 different areas:

Fire;

Make sure there are no flammable objects in the microwave when using it

Make sure flammable objects are not near the element on the stove

 

Burns and Scalds:

Pull up sleeves when cooking

make sure dangling hair is nowhere near the heat because it could catch on fire

 

Chemicals:

Make sure not to combine cleaning chemicals because it could create deadly gas

Make sure to label all chemicals to prevent using the wrong chemical for cleaning

 

Slip/Trips/Falls:

Clean up spills quickly

Make sure shoe laces are tied and apron is tied

 

Cuts:

Make sure when cutting to use the ‘claw’ finger positioning

Always cut away from yourself

 

Heavy lifting:

Lift with your knees

If something is too heavy or awkward to carry have someone help

 

How to prevent food poisoning:

Make sure to clean your hands after using egg or raw meat

Do not use the same container for cooked meat and raw meat, same with eggs

 

Waste management:

Learn what can and ant go in the compost

Use your compost bin in your unit so you don’t have to keep going back and forth to the big bin

 

Personal Hygiene:

If you’re sick stay away from food or wear a face mask

Make sure your hands are clean before you touch any food
