This week I learned about Intercepts. An intercept is when the X or Y axis are at zero on the graph. For an X intercept it is the point on the graph where the line crosses the x-axis, while for the Y intercept it is where a point crosses the y-axis. For an equation to find the x intercept you can plug in zero for “y” and solve for “x”, then do the opposite with “y” by plugging in zero for “x” then solving for “Y”.
Example: 6x + 2y = 18
X-intercept: Y= 0 y-intercept: X= 0
6x + 2(0) = 18 6(0) + 2y = 18
6x =18 2y = 18
x= 3 y = 9
X-intercept: (3, 0) y-intercept: (0, 9)
