DOAS Monologues

The following is an example I created of a monologue for the Character Biff from “Death of a Salesman.” This is a monologue because Biff is releasing his frustrations to Happy and explains what he wants to do. This monologue would fit in the current plot right after Biff attempted to speak to Bill Oliver and hopefully receiving a job from him and it not working out. They meet at the restaurant just before they meet their father for dinner.

Biff: You don’t understand, Happy. No one does. For my entire life I’ve been trying to please everyone; I tried to make my teachers happy, my bosses, and especially our parents happy but I was never able to please myself. For the first time in my life, working on the farm over the past few months, was me at my happiest. I did not have to worry about football, school, or dad accepting me. I belong at a place where I am able to decide what I want to do, be happy working at where I want to work, and the farm is one of those places. Over there, I am on my own with a few others and all we need to worry about is how hard the winter is going to hit or when the bugs are going eat the crops and that is something I would rather worry about.
