What’s In My Junk Food

I wouldn’t say that this is my favourite but one sugary drink I use often in sports.  I chose this because I what to find out more about it. I use Gatorade, because when training you lose a lot of energy and start to feel sick at times. I like Gatorade because when I need more carbohydrates Gatorade solves that, and also has good flavours.  But, the reason why Gatorade is unhealthy is because of the proportion that is given.  Personally I think it is too much.  Usually you have say three sips of Gatorade and then double the sips of water.  You don’t need to drink a whole bottle to solve your energy problem.  Gatorade contains 22g of sugar and contains 80 calories.   Now the calories don’t seem like many but, if you drink many of these drinks when not needed the amount of sodium you’re taking in is more than you need.   Especially if your eating high sodium foods as well.  This then can lead to high blood pressure.  So, if you are managing the intake of Gatorade and only taking it when needed then it can be considered healthy.   But, most people just look at it as another drink.  Another problem is the vitamin intake.  Gatorade is fortified with a variety of different vitamins and minerals, including some fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamin A. Fat-soluble vitamins cannot be excreted from the body when they are consumed in quantities too large, so side effects may occur.
