Mendelian Genetics

Image result for dimple dominant trait

In Mendelian genetics the law stated that each organism inherited has of its genetic material from one parent and half from the other.  A mendelian trait that I chose was dimples.  Dimples are a very common thing to see in someone but do we know what they even are?  Dimples are actually genetic defects that are caused by shortened facial muscles.  A variation in the structure of the facial muscle may also cause dimples.  This fault happens during the embryonic development.  Usually dimples are present on both cheeks, a single dimple is very rare.  Having dimples is dominant over not having dimples.

Scientific Method Bubble Gum Lab

In conclusion,  according to the data gathered, our first hypothesis was correct and our second hypothesis wasn’t.  Our first hypothesis stated, “If the Hubba Bubba is stickier, then it will blow a bigger bubble, because it will stretch more.”  After testing both brands three times each, the average size for brand A (Hubba Bubba) was 11.3 cm, and for brand B (Big League Chew) the average was 8.6 cm.  As brand A was Hubba Bubba our hypothesis then should be supported.  Our second hypothesis for part 2 was, “If the Hubba Bubba blew bigger bubbles, then it will stretch further, because it has more capacity to expand.” After gathering data from our observations brand A stretched 33cm, and brand B stretched 236 cm.  As brand B was Big League Chew our hypothesis should be refuted.
