The Help

I enjoyed The Help because it showed me that no matter the circumstance and what you are going through there is always a way out and sometimes you will have to persevere but the outcome can be better than ever expected.

My future lifestyle will be luxury and simple but regular.  I will go to work as a police officer take my kids to school, and enjoy my hobbies throughout my spare time.  We will go on lots of vacations and trips and live in a modern house somewhere hot.

Average cost of a wedding in Canada: $31,685

Average annual cost of a child in Canada: $13,366

Average annual cost of owning a car in Canada:  $8,600 and $13,000

Average annual cost of owning pets in Canada:  approximately $2,600 for a puppy and $1,900 for a kitten.

Average cost for a international trip: $3,251

Dystopia Mini Project

This picture represents the illusion of a perfect futuristic world.  It looks proper and organized on the outside (the buildings), but on the inside (the gears) there is too much control which leads to a totalitarian government.  Once you get deeper you then can see all the toxic technology behind it all. The people holding hands around the “world” represent the control the government has over them, starting with the leader on the far right.

My Graduation Plan

1. Healthy Living
a. This year, I am playing soccer five days a week and taking PE 10 to meet DPA requirements (150 mins/week of moderate to vigorous physical activity).
b. Next year, I will be playing soccer four times a week to meet DPA requirements.
c. Other than physical activity, I will also need a concrete plan for healthy eating and stress management in order to lead a healthy life after graduation.

2. Course Credits
a. I need 80 credits to graduate. A typical course is worth 4 credits.
i. 48 of them must be from required courses.
ii. 28 of them must be from electives.
iii. 16 of them must be from Grade 12 courses.
b. At the end of this year, I will have 36 credits.

3. Community Connections
a. I need 30 hours of work/volunteer experience. To show I completed this, I must show proof in the form of a pay stub or reference letter.
b. I can start accumulating these hours in Grade 10-12
c. My plan to earn work/volunteer hours is through continuing my job at Freshii.
d. I will also need to complete a reflection that includes hours of work/volunteer, employability, and how the experience was beneficial. It will be 200 typed words minimum.

4. Career and Life
a. In addition to updating my resume, I will also create a resume and post-secondary plans to show that I have a plan in place after graduation.
b. When I graduate, my current plan is to attend university or college
5. Interview
a. To prepare for the interview, I can look at the questions ahead of time. They are found on the GT website.
b. My interview will be with a Riverside staff member.
6. The 3 people at Riverside who are here to help with this process are:
a. Mr. Ahmelich
b. Mrs. Davis
c. Your counselor

In Grade 12, I will find all the necessary documents AND submit them to the grad transitions website.
I will complete Grad Transitions 12 whenever I have English 12. If I have it in 1st semester, I must complete everything except the interview before Winter Ball. In 2nd semester, everything except the interview must be completed before the end of April.

Workplace Safety

To keep me safe at work I will follow all procedures, use common sense, and will wear necessary protection.  To keep others safe at work I will say something if they aren’t following procedure, and I will clean up after myself to ensure there are no hazards.

Matt Boycott’s story resonates with me the most.  Matt had a job at a restaurant at 19 and sadly had an oil accident.  The reason why this resonates with me most is that right now I currently am working a job at Freshii which is a fast food place.  Although we don’t deal with deep fryers, we do deal with a steamer and boiling water, hot broths and beans.  This made me realize that accidents do happen and following procedure is extremely important.  Procedure steps can be lost when no manager is around and when working a night shift like many of us high school students do.  This made me more aware and showed me that if something doesn’t seem right or safe to you it is okay to say no. Proper procedures are there for a reason.
