Make your first blog post about what you want to learn in this class. Add a photo that relates to your idea.
My experiences in textiles and sewing is minimal, but I have some and my goal for this class is to improve and learn more to gain confidence around sewing, following patterns and I hope to learn about reliable skills. The theme I would like to follow is light and flowy kinds of clothing articles. Very pastel colours and summer vibes, I would also like to become more confident at crocheting – maybe a top and/or an article with patchwork.
My inquiry project is going to be product-based, two main things I have interest in making both have specific colours, fabric/materials and style. My project is also material-based because i know i want to use two specific materials – linen and yarn. The purpose of my project is to learn new skills, I would like to be able to confidently make a pair of shorts as well as lean more crochet skills. I have seen others make tops like this before as well as shorts like the photos I have attached. As for chalenges, I am a bit worried about having two project ideas because I would like to execute both of them very well and they are new skills.
Give a weekly breakdown: Im looking to get the fabric I have in mind as well as look for patterns that are like my inspiration photos. Once I finish the project I will hand it in by photos and hopefully I can challenge myself and compete both ideas.
Week One : 7th – 11th feb
This week I accomplished and finished making my stuffed ‘love monster’ as well as learning some new sewing skills. Next week we will be working on doll pants and mood boards for our partners/clients. My goal for this week is to finish the mood board and start sewing potentially if that’s in the cards for this week. I would like to try and stay focused and work hard.
Week Two and Three :
These past two weeks, I have been working on the doll pants assignment. I have worked with a client/partner to learn how to take measurements properly and respectfully as well as speaking and learning about client profiles and mood boards. Last week I completed buy mood board.
This week I have been working on completing, cutting and pinning the doll pants pattern on the fabric me, and my client choose. I have cut the pattern and pinned it on this week. And for the last two days I have been sewing the pants, using the sewing machine and following the pattern.
Week Three and Four:
During these two weeks I have been working on my doll pants as well as trying some new knitting stitches during free time this past week. I believe I have done a good job accomplishing the tasks at had and have produced and made great quality doll pants for the current assignment.
Along the pants I did two top stitches with a zigzag stitch using white thread for a cool but subtle stitch. As well as experimenting with using different yarns at one time. Overall I didn’t find the doll pants assignment to be too difficult and I enjoyed making the pants. I would have like to try and use a different material but overall thought the project was fun and simple. My goals for next week are to get started on my enquiry project and find a fabric to work with as well as stay focused.
Week Five: This week I worked on a new project as well as finishing outstanding assignments on teams. Our class is working on trashion right now and everyone is making their separate projects.
Must be made primarily out of garbage or recycled material, but joining material can be new (ie thread, glue, tape, staples)
For this part of the criteria I used an old street sign banner to create my top. I wanted to make a top that ties on the back as well as something wearable. I think I could have done better on this, and could have maybe followed a pattern with the recycled fabric instead.
Week Six and Seven: The past two weeks I have been working on making pants from a vogue pattern, I used green fabric and the pants also include a zipper.
Once the pants where done, I decided I didn’t like the waistband and removed it, the new waistband was thicker and different in the back of the pants, I wore the pants and decided I need two clips in the back to keep it together and make it look more flush.
Our next project is to design our own garment, an apron is the original idea, but for this project I would like to make pants again, following somewhat the same ideas but making the pants shorter, as well as the zipper on the side instead of back and my goal would be to add pockets to the pants I design and learn for the mistakes I made in the other pair.
Week Eight: This week, I painted shoes… I didn’t really have much motivation this week, I would like to work more next week and my focus for the rest of this week is to finish my edublog posts.
