Week 1, February 1st 2023 – Making an edublog post
- Brief Overview of what you did this week, including photo documentation of process.
- Your biggest struggle of the week.
- Your biggest success of the week.
- Goal for next week.
This week we did a sort of scavenger hunt in class to find out what other people know about this class, an to get to know people, we learned about our edublog and set up our edublog together.
My biggest struggle was going slow with explanations, and my biggest success was making my edublog post.
My goal for next week is to be pressent in the class, and start working on something.
This is a photo of something in the class as an example to show I know how to put a picture on my blog.
This is my Sgrafitto tile idea, they are daffodils and connect with Emma’s tile, my leaf turns into a fin/tail for hers.
This is my tile being cut out and the tile carved out ready to be fired.
Then using chalk I traced my drawing onto my tile after it had been glazed black.
This is my tile after being bisque fired. Now the next step is to be clear glazed.
Week 2 – Inquiry Term-Long Project
Make an Edublog journal entry on your page (just editing the page) where you cover the sections highlighted in blue.
What would you like to investigate/make as a term-long project?
To get started I need clay to mold into the incense holders, this will be my first project. I also would like to learn how to use the wheel I think this would be interesting, and want to make some sort of plate.
My goal is to learn how to use the wheel, and hopefully make an incense holder that is the perfect size to hold the incense stick and catch the ash stuff as it falls.
- Drive less, walk/bike more!
- Don’t over-fertilize your lawn (or don’t fertilize at all!).
- Make changes that reduce the amount of pollution that runs off your property.
- Install a rain barrel, build a rain garden, use porous pavers or gravel in place of paved surfaces. Direct your rain spouts into a rain barrel, rain garden, gravel swale, or—at the very least—onto your lawn, instead of your driveway.
Week 4
This week I worked on the wheel, at making a mug for the monster mug project. As well as learning how to use the wheel as my inquiry project for the class.
My tile was also glazed in clear glaze and fired this week.
Week Five
This week I worked on my monster mug as well and working on the wheel, I also created two small bowls or containers. I glazed my mug green and painted the lips and mouth red, I am just waiting for it to be glazed fired.
Week Six or Seven?
This week I made two small bowls I glazed on green and added glass to the bottom covered in clear glue – im hoping it will make a look of glass underneath that is broken. I also trimmed my other small bowl and glazed it with blue as well as with some black which I added with a sponge – im just waiting for this to be glaze fired as well.
Week Seven
This week I glazed my small bow, I also made two plates and finished another project I had started. My monster mug was glazed and fired this week and is now finished. I worked on the wheel tying to make a mug, but I can’t get it to be as big as I want it while also looking good.
For this dish I tired to experiment, I make it on the wheel, but didn’t fire it before putting underglaze, then I let the underglaze dry and clear glazed without firing once, after this was complete I did one glaze fire to see what the product would look like, I think it turned out great. The purpose of my mug was to create something almost fish looking to drink out of, I chose this because in elementary school I made a mug like this during a pottery camp, and I thought it would be cool the recreate.
Week Eight
This week I was only here for two days, I glazed a bowl I made on the wheel, and bisque fired one of my plates. I started my underwater creature and need to finish some more aspects before firing it next week.
Week Nine
This week I worked on my under water creature, and making a mug, I made the mug on the wheel and then glazed it with pink glaze that I watered down for a watery look. I used a small container of white glaze to add dots and designs to the mug as well as a cool white glaze with purple bits in it as a bottom for the mug.
Week ten
This week I worked on my paper dragon head, I drew it out and started making balls with new paper. I also began making a green colour clay, as well as teaching my friend how to work on the wheel.
Week Eleven
This week I made a heart plate, as well as wiring on my dragon head, I used news paper and tape to make the head more solid.
Week Twelve
This week I made eyeballs for my dragon head as well as teach my friend how to work on the wheel, the product of this was a small expresso cup. I continued by glazing my clay eyes with blue and green colours as well as clear glazing them after they had already been fired (I did it properly this time) and cut no corners with glazing and firing the right amount of times.
Week 13
This week I worked on making an expresso cup with Maria, my goal was to teach her how to use the wheel, after trying to make a small cup she eventually decided on one she liked, we fired it and then glazed it with green glaze.
Week 14
This week I fired a small plate I made a while ago as well as tried to paint my below water project, I didn’t finish painting the project, I don’t really like what I made and am quite disappointed in my work. I also added my eyes to my dragon and will start adding fur tomorrow.
Week 15
This week I added clay to my dragons face and will start adding fur next week, as well as doing the new assignment.
This assignment has 3 parts:
- Studio Maintenance Identification– Identify a section of the clay studio that requires maintenance and take a photo of it. What is the name of the item, space, product, or tool? What is this item, space, product, or tool used for? What does it look like, versus how it should look like.
I would like to clean the pottery wheels, the bowls around the wheels are very dirty and I would like to clean them out.
CANT UPLOAD PICTURES RIGHT NOW!!!!!
- Division of Tasks and Process– How will you collaboratively maintain this area? Who will do what? Take process images of the maintenance going on. At least 3 photos of you and your team doing work.
- Completion of Maintenance– Once you have maintained an item, space, product, or tool, take completion images. How has the maintenance of this item contributed to the classroom or environment?
