1. When you watched your volcano erupt, what did you notice about the “pyroclastic” flow? Describe it’s movement.

We tried to force the flow of the “lava” by ripping part of the volcano to flow toward the city we made. but even though we did the “lava” shot up so fast half went the other way anyway.

2.When you watched the videos of the Hawaiian Eruption from Mount Kilauea, what did you notice               about the way it interacted with the landscape?

It was burning everything, using the road to travel faster, anything in its way did not last long, houses are gone,

3. Why is the volcanic activity important for places like Hawaii?

so it can get more land mass? i mean nothing good came from that.. unless you were living beside a dog that never shut up… and well now you can enjoy the silence of a hot dog.. .

4. How did people respond to the volcanic activity?

Well of course everyone was sad, scared, and maybe a little at awe, but they know the will be able to continue life

5. Compare what you saw in the video to life here in Vancouver. What if the Coquitlam Mountain erupted, how would you respond?

Well, I would respond by putting a red bandanna on my head 2 stripes of war paint and grab my arisoft gun then be supper cool as I shoot the BB’s into the lava (i would burn a lot of stuff), cook hot dogs and stuff, I would have a blast! and because i live on a hill the lava should not be able to clime up the hill, so even if the lava went through poco i would live #survival of the fittest. then i would rent out boxes to people who lost there houses and make major profit. hehe well i would… but my mom would probably stop me….

Over the weekend I looked through my earthquake kit, all food and water is up to date, We have extra clothes, The necessities, A hand crank radio, Some gloves and everything else, We do need new batteries but other then that we have everything to survive.

I also talked to my Mother and we do indeed have earthquake insurance.

1. This documentary used several pieces of evidence to support their claim that we are in a dangerous location. What were those pieces of evidence? List them.

1.The seduction zone near us

2. in a salt marsh deposit they found a spruce forest that can only grow on dry land. suggesting it was once up higher and then collapsed.

3. a record in japan showed that an earthquake far away that caused a tsunami to hit japan

4. the ghost forest was filled with trees hundreds of miles away. then one day thay all died like magic and they discovered the trees had died had a lined with the japan tsunami

See the Native stories by them selves are not very reliable cause well that’s just it, they are stories nothing to back up the realism meaning that they could just be lies or made up.

the ghost forest could have just died by some kind of tree infection.

the japan thing could have started like just barely out of the range of the earth quake and had a mini tsunami

3. This documentary comments on the destruction a seismic event could have on Vancouver. Describe what you learned from this documentary on how Vancouver could be impacted.

we will be hit by strong shaking in the ground for a long period oh time (5-7 min), in indoniasia most of the damage was caused by the tsunami not the earthquake in BC it will be the other way around. no one knows what will happen to the high rises, some believe they will withstand the earth quake others think it will fall. but the old tall buildings are believed to fall. colaps of tall buildings will cause the most death in the quake.

At the time of the explosion of Mt. Saint Helen’s, my mother was in Nelson BC, Canada, approximately 8 hours away from POCO and 9 hours away from Mt. Saint Helens. My mother had heard about the event of the eruption over the news, and for as frightened as the people closest to the blast where, the kids of Nelson had a different reaction “We where actually excited… we were not in any danger and It was the first time anything like this had happend before… things like that only happened in movies. Also i was in grade 7” unfortunately for her it was to far away to see the blast or the pillar of smoke rising from the crater as it was obstructed by the surrounding mountains. However even though it was so far away and on the other side of the mountain the people did not go unscathed “The ash hit us too, not enough to do damage to the environment or poison the air or anything like that. but it was enough to excite us… we put pieces of paper out to let the ash land on”. So even though they were so far away these people where still touched by the effect of the explosion.

What went wrong with today’s lab? List all the variables that disturbed our results and create a solution to make the outcome more accurate.

There where simply just to many variables, between the different people, leg size, size of step and speed it is just to hard to accurately predict where they started with all these different variables.

– Why do you need more than one seismometer station to find the epicentre of an earthquake? Why is one not enough?

Because they only measure around where the earth quake started meaning you could only go the wrong way, but if you have 2 then you can look at where they over lap giving 2 spots where it could have started and then if you have 3 they will over lap even more giving an even more accurate reading.

Why do you think identifying an epicentre location is important for our  society?

It is important because it will give you the information for an estimate for when and where you should prepare for and earthquake. It will tell you where not to build (like on top of fault lines). it also tells people how they should build their houses, as you will need a stronger house if you are constantly attacked by earthquakes.

How could we use this data in an emergency response situation?

We can find where we need to get to the quickest as people closest to the initial earthquake, because those people who got trapped probably have a lesser chance of survival with the worst being thrown at them. the people farthest from the blast will have less of an effect, still deadly but not as bad.

Flash flooding in France!

After a storm in the night ripped through south France, it brought flash flooding that has caused some serious damage and has killed at least 10 people so far. The flash floods caused people to get trapped in cars, through parked cars into the canals, flooded stores and houses causing major water damage, some people who were hit by the flooding had to be extracted by helicopters. This has caused many roads to close and schools to shut down, and even businesses as their goods where now tainted or ruined by all the water. This all happened October 15^th when 6 months’ worth of rain dropped in only one night, now kids can’t go to school, houses and businesses have savvier water damage and their goods have been swept away, and lots of rescue teams have been called in to help these people. The hydrosphere has swelled up to much for the biosphere to handle and the hydrosphere mixed with the lithosphere to cause even more damage to the biosphere and the lithosphere too.

500 firemen where called in to help the injured, evacuate the traumatised people, and keep people as safe as possible. If people could supply more food and water it would help out but currently the water is going down and lots of people are already taking care of the people hurt.

This event does not make me feel much. Because even though I read it on the news and have seen what has happened over videos, they are still only on my computer screen. It is sort of like playing a video game, but a horror game so you know that you should never get to attached to a character cause it is quite possible that in the next scene/ time we see then they my just turn out to die, so it does not have any real effect on me. Also just to add to that this is also a project for school, so it is sort of masked by this other feeling of “you have to stay focused and know what you’re doing” you know?

I would not really propose anything as the French government is already doing all they can to help the people, and the water is subsiding so they will be able to go back soon enough, and they have everything under control for the most part so I believe everything will be alright even without my opinion.

Sorry i did not take this seriously and i imagined this person as my friend rather then family cause that is more realistic to me. Also he is a good friend that i traveled with a lot. and i am older too.

I trust this letter finds you well even with the disaster. How are you doing? I imagine you were hit by it too? I hope your travels and studies where not to effected by the disaster. I hope you and the kids managed to get out of this unscathed, however I don’t imagine the same can be said for your house. How is food and water? Do you have a place to stay in the mean time? I am enclosing 500$ in this to help you out in the time being. My friend, I will be visiting you as soon as I can. Maybe you and I can go adventuring again. just like old times eh? Ahh those where the days. Traveling the caves in Mexico, waking through the jungles. Good time good times. My friend I am running out of space to right. The reason why it was so bad was because Indonesia is sitting right on top of a fault line, meaning as soon as an earth quake was to strike it would have the most power as it has less space to travel. Not only that but the earthquake also started a tsunami which killed a lot more people, so now you have people buried under rubble, and people swept out to sea. The impacts of the sociosphere people that once interacted with it can no longer do that… people are working together to help find and save people, other countries are helping by sending supplies and people, news networks are interviewing the victims of this tragedy.
