Week 4 – Pre-Calc 11

The fourth week in and everything is still going great. I admit that a few of the concepts around the radicals have been challenging, but with a bit of time, they are mysteries not too difficult to unravel. This week’s BIG theme and an overlying one of this unit are LIKE TERMS. One more time maybe? LIKE TERMS.

They are what make the world of radicals go round. The number one most important rule that has been drilled into our head is that you C A N N O T add together terms that are not like. Let me delve a little deeper into what like terms will look like when working with radicals.

Essentially, the rule is you can’t add together \sqrt 2 and \sqrt 3

The final answer, in that case, would be just \sqrt2 + \sqrt 3

You CAN however add together \sqrt 2\sqrt 2

That would equal 2 \sqrt 2

That was one of the big takeaways from this week.

Thanks for checking it out!
