Here is my blackout poem project on The Veldt which was written by Ray Bradbury. I created my poem on paper, and used the novel Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I found my poem on page eight of the first Hunger Games Novel.
Reflection:
Olivia Neuman`s poem called “Invisible” represents the theme from The Veldt which was that “on how we are becoming disconnected from each other and how Technology has its advantages and disadvantages; however, the dangers inherent in consumerism and unchecked progress in science and technology are apparent. Humans may, ironically, be destroyed by their own inventions or arrogance.” Olivia’s poem mentions “when all I see is skin and bones” which connects with the theme from the veldt as represents humans being destroyed because no one can afford to run away and try to solve this huge technology problem. We are so content with social media and technology, as consumers we chose to ignore the huge problem that represents itself because we simply do not have the strength to do so. This line and the line/words before that in Olivia’s poem represent how we as humans are being destroyed and slowly ripped apart by the things we created. The poem ends with ” I don’t know the idea is so preposterous” which shows humanity how some of us may have realized the grand problem but don’t have enough strength and are too lazy to make a real change about it. If you dive deep enough her poem symbolizes and connects to the theme bradbury represented in his famous book The Veldt. In this poem the author used the literary device was imagery, she represented this by using the words ” sunlight with a soft breeze seeping into warm” to give the reader a visual picture of how the atmosphere and using that information to prove that even though the weather outside is beautiful doesn’t mean the weather inside is as equally nice and peaceful. She describes the warm rays of sunlight in the invisible place you can almost feel it on your face. She shares a message on how dependency on technology can render us, broken, lazy, alone and feeling like we do not matter. Olivia’s poem tells us that it is easy to be invisible if we do not have enough courage to change, being too dependent and focused on technology can ruin yourself and your relationship with others. Be wise and be Careful! And of course do not be afraid to stand up.
