The Sea Devil Questions

Why does the Man fish at night?

In the story, it explains that the man has a hobby of fishing. It explains that he loves everything about it; but mostly he goes fishing because he wants to get away from his modern life. He wanted to do something that brought him joy for relaxation.

Why does this lead to the conflict with the ray?

Well, the whole story is about the man struggling against the ray to break free, when the rope got taggles and pulled him overboard. This means that if the man didn’t decide to go fishing that day, the conflict would have never happened.

Identify examples of foreshadowing

  1. In the start of the story, when it said “porpoises were his friends” thet paragraph explains how the man saved a baby porpoise, and I think it was a foreshadowing for how the porpoise saved him later in the story.
  2. When it said “His conscious mid had no time to function, but instinct told him that the net was wide enough to cover both swirls if he could alter the direction of his cast.”
