HCE 9 – English Write

“It’s a Bird”  – By Christian Cooper, Courtesy of DC Comics 2004

Right now in English 9 A, we are working on visual texts. It’s Looking at an image or a picture or an art piece that has been made with meaning and extracting what it (The author who created the image) wants to tell you.

First, I had to put this image in a theme category: RESPECT, COLLABORATION or INCLUSIVITY. I have chosen Respect for this certain image, and here is why:

Here, when I looked at the image, the first thing I noticed was the bunch of African Americans behind the one man who also seems the same race. The fact that they were not coloured told me that they were the images of that race That each one of them carried. it looks to me as though they were backing up the man from being yelled at for no apparent reason. This just tells me how white people can be racist and act out of reason and be rude toward other races. This makes me feel sad since it showed that just a while ago, there was a big gap in between races, and it was just recently that this rivalry started to dissolve. Even adults say that our generation is the first to truly be free of racism.  To me, this picture is indicating just how much we humans have mistreated other people just for their skin colour. just because they’re different.  Just because they’re special. In the end, I am glad that I was born into a community that does acknowledge the difference in race but does not mistreat people because of that, or take away rights.
