Surface Area of a Sphere… Orange

What did you do?

First we cut our orange into half and then we scraped the insides out so we were left with just the peel. Then we cut the peel into mostly triangles to try and arrange them into the traced circles on our sheet of paper which we traced from the half of our oranges. Known as a hemisphere. We were able to create 4 full circles with our peel.

What did you learn about the surface area of a sphere?

I learned the formula for the surface area of the sphere and I learned why it works by observing the relationship between the shape and the formula.
