This week we learned about physics word problems but also were able to connect our understanding of rational expressions and fractions we added on to what we did last week and we are now learning about the rule of the equal sign in fractions that says that you are able to cross multiply when there is an equal sign I think the hardest time that I had was the current questions and the boat speed questions because it is multiple variables to setting up the fractions and needs to make a tea chart most of the time
the most challenging part about this assignment was setting up the equations because I had to think about the current and how it would affect the speed of the boat going upstream after that was done I was able to solve the equation easily
explanation – I took the 4km that it took to go upstream and put it over the x and then subtracted it by 3 because that’s what the variable was going against ( the speed of the current) and on the other side of the equation I put in the 10km and put in the variable (x) + 3 because the current was helping the boat go down in that situation and then all I did after that was cross multiply the two sides and then isolated the variable to find the average speed of the boat in still water
