Core Competent Canadians

Question 1: What did you know about the Core Competencies before this activity? What did you learn?

I knew that the core competencies are essential to us in the future and they are qualities that we are going to need for pretty much everything that we are going to need to do. Today I learned that there are going to be different job opportunities in the future that don’t even currently exist. I also learned that there are Canadians that have mastered some of the core competencies and it had taken them very far in their life.

Question 2: How can your knowledge of the Core Competencies help you in your school life? Personal life?

Knowing the Core Competencies can give me a really big advantage to help me in my school and personal life. When we are going to graduate, there are going to be many different job opportunities that aren’t available now. If we are very familiar with these 6 core competencies, they will make even more opportunities available to us then just academics alone. For example, when we graduate, there might be an opportunity that needs someone to be really strong in the communication competency. By practicing this skill in school, I am going to be one of these people skilled in this competency. This can also help me while I am at school by helping me with assignments. If I am doing a research project, I am going to need to be strong with the critical thinking competency and analyze the information correctly. Knowing the competencies will also help me while analyzing other people because I will be able to recognize people who are strong in other competencies and do a project about them.

Additional Comments:

I feel like this activity has really improved my knowledge about the core competencies and I now have a better understanding of how these can and will help us in the future. I feel like now I have an advantage over students from other schools because I am aware of these core competencies and can start to master them now.
