BChydro-620x330B.C Power Story
Electric generation system
BC hydro electric generator, generates by harnessing the power of moving or falling water to make mechanical/electrical energy. BC Hydro generates over 43,000 gigawatt hours of electricity and has to supply more than 1.6 million residential, commercial and internal customers, this power is delivered and passed through using an interconnected system of over 73,000 kilo meters or transmission and distribution .

Hydropower plants
All around the world Hydro power plants make up about 24 percent of the world’s electricity and supply over 1 billion people with power and electricity. All of the world’s Hydropower plants out put and combined total of 675,000 megawatts, the energy equivalent of 3.6 billion barrels of oil! And in the united States of America alone there are than 2,000 Hydropower plants operating to make sure u have power and electricity. Making Hydropower plants the number 1 and largest renewable source of energy.

Thermal power stations
What do thermal power stations do and how do they work?
They boil the water, this heat is made to change water into steam in a boiler, the steam pushes the turbine to produce kinetic energy, this will drive the generator to make kinetic energy into electrical energy.
So for a more basic point of view :
Water boils into steam, steam works turbines produce kinetic energy that travels to an energy generator that forwards to a pylon also known as “that big metal tower”.
Some of the power sources near us!
Hydroelectric generation( Lake Buntzen)
This power house was the second power house built in British Columbia in 1914 you may have seen it, it is a very beaten down building with huge metal pipes coming out of it that proceed to scale the mountain. This generates power to a huge range of people.

Thermal generator (Burrard Thermal)
The Burrard thermal station also known as BGS is located in the north part of Port Moody. It is a 900 megawatt conventional natural gas generating station it is completely run by natural gas to help the environment. It accounts for approximately 9% of BC power, powering 700,000 homes across the lower main land.
