Howe Sound

What are the most powerful ways Howe Sound can be protected from the on going impacts of climate change?

Howe Sound has been a dumping ground for the Britannia mine which polluted the fjord with 40 million litres of acidic mining dranage and heavy metals every day form 1904-1974. This has caused multipule probolems for the ecosystems and animals that inhabit that area. In order to help Howe Sound and protect it from climate change we must remove the acidic material, and heavy metals. Another form of pollution and climate change in the fjord is the mills and factories that are located on the banks of Howe Sound and the pollution they produce. Thankfully Scientists and Industrial Workers have cut emissions drasticaly, and over 90% of the heavy metals and acidic materials has been removed.

What are the most impactful ways to reduce greenhouse emissions at the indivisual, local, provincial, national, and global scale?

As an indivisual there are many ways to cut down on greenhouse gases, some more logical than others. One way is to reduce gases you use, weather it be a gas stove or the heating in your house or the fule to power your car, there are ways to reduce those emmisions. You can take more public tranportation or ride a bike, to reduce the gases emmited by your car, another way would be to switch to electrical heating and/or cars. As a city/local we can help clean our area and be mindful of what we are releasing into the atmosphere, or rivers, and lakes. We could also create more recycling industries and programs. As a provence B.C is cutting down on greenhouse emmisions by 40% by 2030. And on the National scale Canada is looking for more clean sources of energy, charging those who heavaly use greenhouse gases to discourage the use, and Canada is also using the help of researchers to get a detailed quota of how the country can help fight climate change. And the World is trying to cut down on emissions however this is a near impossible task, as many countries/industries are making too much money to care about what the impacts of greenhouse emissions are.

What are some examples of how scientific understanding enables humans to resond and adapt to climate change?

As scientist get a better understanding of greenhouse gases and how they work people have been able to make changes to reduce some of these emissions, another example is the studies of oceans to determine the Temperature changes, acidity leveles, and amounts of polution in the oceans so that humans can either control or fix the problems that are revealed by scientific discovories. Similar to how scientists have observed and studied the changes happening in Howe Sound, so that they can help reduce greenhouse emissions and pollution into the fjord.
