Week 14 – Changing slope equations

This week in Math 10, we learnt how to change certain forms of slope equations to other types

There are 3 types of equations that we learned about, Point Slope form, this is the most reliable form we learned about, Y-intercept form, the most simple form we learned about and the General form which is the most useless because it doesn’t tell us anything about our line on the graph.

General form is when the x and y variables are on the same side of the equation and it all equals zero.  The coefficient of x always has to be a positive and nothing can be a fraction.

Point-slope form is when you have the slope to solve the equation and the slope must always be with the X variable while the Y variable must be on the other side.

-2(x-3)=y+15 is our point-slope form.

To change this into General form we must distribute the slope to the variables in the brackets.

after we distribute we see that x is negative which means we have to move x and +6 to the other side. To convert the (-2x) to a (+2x).

And the final step would be to sort all of the Variables with X first Y second and the remaining variables 3rd
