On instagram I found a baking company here in Coquitlam, They are called the baking Lala. A Korean style bakery run by a family. They are team, the husband creates bakes the cakes and other pastries and the wife is in charge of decorations. She also takes care of clients ordering and sociale media posts so it was her that I reached out to.She talked to me about how they are very busy since it is just the two of them and they work very hard with early hours. She says the best experience you could have for the decoration aspect of her position is majoring in art, where she also learned about editing for sociale media. They also had 20 years prior advice of business and clients while running a hotel. You need an equal amount of business smarts and creativity to be successful in this occupation. I chose to interview this business because I enjoy baking on the weekend and in my free time, but I know that it is not an easy task to be really good at it. I wanted an honest opinion on the life of an self-employed baker, an they gave me exactly that. They told we that it can be very stressful but very rewarding when they see how happy their clients are. they inspire me because they work very hard and go through a decent of stress to make people happy. From this experience I learned that you can’t take these small businesses for granted because they worked very hard to get where they are now and that life will definitely not be handed to you perfectly. it takes a lot hours and days and even years to achieve your goals. I also learned a lot about difficulties that small local businesses struggle with daily, like time management, ingredient expenses, finding clients not on sociale media, and even communicating with local customers. Since they are an Korean style bakery, I had to translate most of my interview to Korean. This was a really great opportunity for me because not only did I connect with someone in my community but who shares a similar passion to me but who also speaks a different language.
