For my core competencies assessement I picked Dmitri Shostakovich, the famed Soviet musician.

Good competency – Creative Competency

Shostakovich often combined political strife as a topic into his music, all under the scrutiny and threatful gaze of Stalin during the 20th century. He used these ideas as a means to express himself and used his passion in music as a way to voice his own political views, and is very well known for that today. He utilized many ideas and thoughts into his music, varying his sound and constantly challenging himself to better create.

Could work on – Social Responsibility

Shostakovich work tirelessly on his music, but he had much difficulty voicing his opinions. He never much positively impacted the social network around him – rather simply made a statement as to how he and others felt at the time. What he perhaps should have considered was to think of others and better communicate his ideas in words as much as his music.
