Science 10 – Float Your Boat! – Scientific Method Project

  1. State the problem of this experiment: make a boat that can float in water and hold the greatest number of pennies.
  2. State your hypothesis for this experiment: If weight distribution is equal (because of the structure and pennies), then the boat will be able to float longer because of the balance on each side.
  3. How many pennies did your boat hold?  14.
  4. What was your thinking/reasoning behind the design of your boat? We thought about what would create a strong, balanced base to keep from sinking, so we created a raft using the straws in a tic-tac-toe form.
  5. What would you keep/change on your boat design if you were to do this again? Perhaps enlargening the boat itself, or maybe even considering having created a boat itself using more than one layer to create stronger support.
