Holy Kaaba
June, 16, 2022, Paper Mache,
Acrylic paint, cardboard, fabric
Nagham Alkhouli
Holy Kaaba is a Paper Mache Award Kaaba for me, covered with a black velvet kind of fabric, but does not shine and that’s what it’s supposed to be. It’s award given for growing up with believing in your culture religion. For my award I made it to represent a positive believing in my religion.
The Kaaba is the thing that guides me to the good path of my life, and it reminds me to believe in my religion and God when I see it. When I get into a problem there isn’t anyone except God that can help me and listen to my praying, even if I didn’t say anything God can know what I’m feeling from inside, he knows who I’m really am, even if all the people around me only think that my personality is how I act or speak, but God knows that this is not my personality he knows my faith my strength and how I can handle and believe in him, sometimes I just can say what I feel or what I want, then I cry and God would figure out from my tears, and of course,, he knows if my tears are fake or actually from the bottom of my heart, he helps me to keep up in life to look forward not at the past, he gives me strength to fight that hard times in my life and to get over them. I’m a person with faith and strength I manage any problem that I get to throw and I get over it by the time and this Paper Mache Award represents my faith and believe in God.
Praying cloth final inquiry
This week I finished my praying cloth. It took me about two weeks to complete and I’m really happy with the outcome!
This is the complete skirt and top I’ve made, and it fits me perfect!
This is me wearing my creation! I love it and have already worn it to pray. One challenge I had when making this is not initially having enough fabric. I was just going to use the circular patterned fabric first, but I didn’t have enough, so I had to find a black fabric to match. None of the black fabrics I looked at appealed to me, so I ventured into the fitting room, and found a silky black fabric that was perfect for me! The end product is exactly what I imagined.
Holy Kaaba 🕋 Paper Mache Award Process
June,1,2,3,6,7,8,2022
-I had started that project by thinking about my best qualities or making a Paper Mache that would symbolize something for me as an award. The first time I started was making a moon and I thought that would be an award as positive guidance for people, but then I thought that I could do better than that to get a good mark the moon idea is very simple and I spent a lot’s of time thinking about a good award for me, I asked friends and the teacher, but non helped me find out the award, at last, I asked Arbish and then she gave me the most deductive idea which is to make a Kaaba which is the house of our God and a thing that symbolize a Muslim religion, so I thought if I made the award meaning would be “#1 Believer.”
Inspiration/ idea: of the Holy Kaaba
-The first thing I started with was my award base and the requires me to use wood so I had to go to the wood work class so I could find the pieces that I was looking for. I found two pieces and the teacher there helped me by cutting out the right size and shape that I want than I asked her to glue them together using the wood glue. I waited for the next day until the woods can stick well together.
-Next day I started with painting the bottom wood whit acrylic paint which represent to floor.
-Next up was I painted the bottom wall of the Kaaba with brown, and to get the brown color that I wanted I had to mix up black and brown to get a good brown wall color, then I let it to dry.
-After it’s dried I start the walls lined with a sparkly gray color that I found.
-Today was the last step on my Paper Mache base and it was to write down my award which I came with “#1 Believer.” and I used a gold shiny color for that writing to make it match up with the Kaaba design. Then I put on the media color which was clear I painted it over the base painting so it would make it shiny.

-Today I have start my actual shape of my Paper Mache. I measured some measurements of a cardboard and cut them then I glued them together to get a cube shape using hot glue gun.
-I began to Paper Mache it using the two main things which were news paper that are cut into strings and the other was the ingredient that makes them stick together and after it get dry it become solid it was potato and water mix. And I do that by dipping the news paper strings in the mix and then take off the extra with putting it between my both fingers and quizzing them off. Then I stick them into the cube and I did that for every single string, but I had to kind of stick them on top of each other, but not all the same direction where I had to stick them across each other so I can make it solid and go over it at least three layers.
-Then let it dry aside for another day.
June,8,2022
-Next step was me going to the textiles room to find out some fabric that I can create the Kaaba with and obviously it is all black so I found lots of black fabric, but the one I chose was thick and kind of like velvet, but not shine, which I was happy about because that’s how actually the Kaaba feels in real like, I mean I never went there, but I had Arbish with me who helped me because she had visit it twice. I also found this gold see through fabric which I just used for the door and I had to fold it layers because it was very thing, and the gold string thing in the picture Arbish found it for me and I wanted to use it for the design that is rounding the Kaaba.
June,9,2022
Next was the time to start the measurement of the fabric so I had started that I measured the same size of the cube so the cloth would fit I then I cut.
June,10, 13,2022
-In these two days I had to sew the fabric as a cube using the sewing machine and it was very complicated because I cut it one piece so I would only have to sew the outside sizes, but using the sewing machine was actually difficult.
-After finishing sewing the fabric I attached it to the from all the sides on the Paper Mache using glue gun.
June,14,2022
-Now time for the base to I made the fabric actually stick on the Paper Mache and I pinned all the corners of the base so I can sew the, the I hand sew all the corners to make it look pretty from the sides and also holds the fabric stronger.
June,15,2022
-Today I began with measuring the sides of the design on the sides of the Kaaba with this gold string that was fitting perfectly with the fabric and the idea of a Kaaba
June,16,2022
-So I Glued these gold strings with the glue gun on all the sides and hoping it would stick, because at first I tried sewing the on the corners, but they weren’t holding up so I tried to lightly glue them because this black fabric when it touch the hot glue it’s impossible the move it out and it would show ugly, but I managed to finished this step with success.
June,17,2022
-Almost done I pinned the door say in the fabric. And glued it done; at first I was going to sew it but I thought that it would look bad so I tried to glue it because the glue won’t show on the bottom, and it works well. U
June,20,2022
-lastly I but regular glue that we use to glue papers with I used it to glue the glitter with, but it was not able to stick for along time anid it kept to falling down so, I moved all the glitter out and this time I did what Mx. Vittie told me and it was to use the white glue that would dry and make it stick I did that and it was fine.
June,21,2022
Final Protect creation I’m done and the last step was to glue the Kaaba into the base and all done.
I’m actually so happy with my final I think it’s so amazing that I got the opportunity in this class to make a Paper Mache with my creation. I enjoyed making this project and I had lot’s of fun during creating that gorgeous creation.
Apron process journal
May 10, 2022
I had started my flat drawing, and get my measurements size on the drawing; to know how I wanted my apron to look I had looked up lots of different ideas on apron’s at first I wanted to do a rounded bottom of the apron, but that was too fancy for a kitchen apron, and from there I choose to go with the basic kind of apron and add for details for it. I thought about who I was supposed to make this apron for and I chose myself to wear it while cooking in the kitchen which would be a good idea and purpose.
May 11, 2022
I found the two fabrics that I was looking for, because I needed two fabrics that would go well together and that took me alot of time after I found them finally. I draw down the pattern on a light paper and cut them then I pinned them into the fabric and cut the fabrics pieces.
May 12, 2022
Today I started to sew the fabric. I measured and ironed the the sizes then I pinned them so it guides me while sewing. Then I start as I began I felt like single needle thread won’t work well, so I asked if I can use double and I got it. it was my first ever time sewing with double needle I mean it wasn’t difficult, but I got the hang of it, on how to remove and place needles and how to use them well.
May 13, 2022
Today I begain to cut the second fabric parts. I sewed this small pocket that goes at the top of the apron. the purpose of it is if you want to put your phone or anything small and personal it goes in this pocket.
May 16, 2022
Know I’m at the step where I had to sew my big pocket on the middle of the apron. which was complicated, because I really wanted to make it rounded bottom I tried to sew it like more than 5 times, but I was struggling and even if I learned and sewed it the other time it does not appear straight on the apron, then I just gave up because I’m sick of keep on trying and no results are better that before their even worse then before each time. I cut this rectangle pocket and decided to go with it, I sew it down and it turn out very skinny wide, but I was like it’s ok if something at least go in it.

May 18, 2022
Last step finally, sewing along the strings and the neck string the I flipped them inside out to the right side and attached them to the fabric. I was proud of myself for the result that I got at the end because I wasn’t expected it to look like that, even though the sewing was a little wiggled on the straight lines, but I still like it.
Trashion Fashion Garment/ Accessory “Summer Style”
Dress details
Title: “Summer Style”
Date: 04/2022
Media: Recycled Fabric
Creator Name: Nagham Alkhouli
_____________________________
Summer Style is a dress made from recycled materials. This dress is made out from a huge skirt that is like more than 4XL size wide, but it was short and that’s why it has more short layers which stands out more for a summer dress, I had found this skirt in the recycled pin in Mx. Vittie Textiles Class.
I used foam in packaging because that kind of fabric that I used was to thin that you can see through, so I attached the foam first and added on top lots of layers using this thin fabric to make it kind of wear able.
The details under these layers of the fabric on that dress is basically made of foam in packaging I had to cut the right dies that would be prefect.
I had used tab to tab all the pieces of the foam on the hanging torso, so they won’t fall down, which to be honest didn’t work well but I had to put a lot to make it at least hold for just to put the fabric on top. I also used thread and sewed the foam pieces together, so I’d create out the right shape possible of the dress. I also used the staple to staple the fabric onto the foam, staples were the most thing I probably used to make the dress to get its shape.
My Apron finals
Intro: Apron
I had made this Apron for myself to wear while working in the kitchen so I don’t get messy which is the most common thing that happen with everyone. I kind of made it in using basic requirements because I didn’t actually wanted to got too fancy. I got a belt on the apron so if holds tight with I tie the strips around. I also had to measures my size to make this apron with a wide bottom so it goes at the sides to protect the clothes from getting dirty on the sides which I hate when I wear a skinny apron from the bottom. I also had to look for a long time for these two fabric that go well together, and it was extremely hard because I couldn’t find two fabric that goes well together, but finally found two that I’d like which is bright but also a little bit dark.
Purpose: I designed this Apron for me. My needs were that I need two fabrics that goes together and a belt on the waist, and the texture that I was thinking about while making it was a basic thing but good in a way.
Ideating/Constraints: My Apron covers the chest and also the waist.
Prototyping/ Testing: designing a flat to show my design. With measurements, Made a pattern of my design.
Making: for making this Apron I had to draw my idea and get does the measurements on, then cut it pieces on paper and pin them to the fabric that cut the size and last I had to sew it using the sewing machine.
The Dolphin Bro’s
June 3 2022
Finally arbish had finished up her tile and we put them together.
to be really honest I think this project was the easiest project I had so far it did took that much of time was ready in couple days. I don’t think it was not difficult the only thing that I really have to attention is that when carving it gets ruined really easy because if I pressed lots of pressure of moved the tool the wrong direction it’s get carved easily.
Sgraffito Tile Process
April 25 2022
Pictures of ideas:
I with Arbish my partner have started on the new project, we start in a good start with this project what we did was that we spend lots of time searching for lots of ideas on the internet, and after all that searching and seeing lots of examples we finally stopped at the birds one because was my thought was that it has flora and fauna and for these two matching together we would get a good mark.
And we thought about the colors that we’re going to use after we cooperated to get the square shape of it ready.
April 26 2022
Me and Arbish got the square shape ready, then put it in a wood base which we’re supposed to to put it on before the a day, and when I went to see it the next day I found mold around it I cleaned it like Mx. Vitte said, but it got mold again then I tried to clean it, but it was a lot so I throw it away and started a new one.
April 27 2022
This is the new tile that I made and I was careful that I should place it on a plastic base.
Then I bone dried it a bit and painted it light blue while Arbish choose dark blue which goes more together.
Then I let dry till next day to carve it.
April 28 2022
After it’s dry I carved the sides and start carving out the picture using new tools that I haven’t used before.
After carving the picture I left it for a couple days becasue Mx. Vitte was away and I couldn’t find over glaze to glaze it and fire it.
May 17 2022
I had glazed it and got it fired and finished that project successfully. And it looks amazing Ii really liked the way it looked specially after it got it’s over glaze.
June 3 2022

Monster Mug Process
March, 28,2022
I had started my monster mug, going with the idea of Winne the Pooh.
I cut the surrounding sides and the base.
Then I attached them together by scoring and slipping then using slip to glue them together.
I try to shape the mug outside because the shape I want is fat, so I tried to push the clay outward.
March, 29,2022
After finishing the mug shape. the next step was that I started thinking about the look/structure that I would like to include.
I begin with cutting out the hands that attaching them to the mug.
March,30,2022
I begin to design the face with was pretty easy, bit it took me kind of long enough because I tried new kind of looks, but they were too difficult so that’s what I got to.
Then after I shaped them they are good to be attached so I attached them with slip using the method slipping and scoring.
By a mess take I put the mug for a couple days that I was away from school I forget to put enough water to make it wet so got dried .I tried to make it wet again, but if felt like it’s too late but I kept going.

Today I did pretty good shaping out the ears, but with the help of my friend. I didn’t know how I need the ears to look like because it was pretty difficult, at first I wanted to make them really small but it looked ugly, so then I asked my friend and she said to make them big, I shaped them and I was going to attach it at the side, but it looks like more like a monkey. Then I asked for some help and someone told me to just put it at the top, and I really liked this idea and did it so.
April,1,2022
The finale step is the handle I shaped it and attach it to the mug.
Then I went over the mug and fixed some spots I blended them so there went be any cracks.
After I only had to wait for it to get bone dry.
April,4,2022
I left it over the weekend so it can bone dry, but what happened was I found some cracks and I had no idea why I tried to fix it by filling up the cracks slip, and the teacher told me that’s because the clay wasn’t the same temperature that happens when I didn’t put enough water one it and I added wet clay to the dry clay so it cracked. Then I gave it to Arbish to fill the cracks with slip but instead she made it worse, after she filled the cracks she hold the mug by the handle before it get fired even though the teacher kept on telling her to not hold it by the handle until it gets fire, and it immediately braked off, then I told her to fix it; another time she made it worse because she tried to get ride of the pieces that left from the handle with the knife and it braked, then she tried to fix it by putting lots of slip on it all that happened by an accident.
So, I didn’t like the ending, and if I had time I would probably make another monster mug so I can prove that I actually made something for that project.
April,5,2022
Today Mx. Vittie wanted to keep me going with that project so she helped creating a new handle and tried to make the clay sofer of the side of the handle by adding vinegar. After creating the new handle and putting vinegar I left it for around 20min so the get ready, than I and Mx.Vittie attached the handle on the mug and tried to keep the cracks not the appear I left it till the next day, when I went and found cracks on them, by following the instructions from Mx.Vittie on keep putting vinegar on it to make it a smooth it took me a bit longer than expected.
April,6,7,8,11,12,2022
On all these days I been trying to get off the cracks by putting vinegar for 4 days, everyday I find cracks at the same spot I kept on putting that vinegar and every day if got better so after it’s all good I show it to Mx.Vittie and by accident the handle was off, but it wasn’t that bad as Mx.Vittie knew what to do to put it back in no time.
April,13,2022
Finally, the cracks stopped to appear, the mug got fired again in the kilim and it was time for under glaze, but Mx.Vittie said that there is not a lot of under glaze left and I have no choice except dipping it into a glaze color that I didn’t even knew how it’s gonna look.
April,14,2022

And that’s how it turn out I mean it’s good, but to be honest I didn’t really want it like that, but at least I got something for this project. So it turn out like that and Mx.Vittie that it’s too dark there should’ve been blue with in these colors so she told me to dip it twice so the glaze would be thicker and it would look better for these kind of mugs, I did starting off by heating the glaze on the mug as you see in the first 2 picture so when I go ahead and dip it into the liquid color it would stick on it and after dipping it twice I heat it again to make it dry as it shows in the third picture then put it away waiting for it to get fired in the kilim.
April,18,2022
here is my final mug protect I finally finished it and her where I placed it in at my house.
