Do you think that governments today should be held responsible for decisions and actions taken by previous governments?

Yes todays governments should be held responsible for decisions and actions taken by previous governments. It is their responsibility because it doesn’t matter when this happened, it happened. Residential schools and the actions being taken in the schools were made by previous governments, but the current government members knew what they were getting into when they became a part of the government and should be able to take responsibility for it and do everything in their power to make it better.

No the government should not be held responsible for what had happened in the past because it happened in the past and they should be focusing on the present and what they can do to better their way of providing leadership, not worrying about the conflicts that took place in the past because of poor decision making based off of discrimination.

In my opinion, no they should not be held responsible for the actions of previous governments because as seen as overall, it is not our current governments fault that the so called “leaders” decided to do this horrible thing. Again, i believe that they should be focusing on the present as said so above, rather than the past. it is important for them to acknowledge what had happened in the past and make clear statements of actions that they are willing to try and make life a safer society for people this action may have affected. It is important to do this to show that they realize what they are saying sorry for and to possibly better gain trust in their people that the previous government may have lost. However, i think it is wrong if the current government decides that a simple apology for what had happened and if they are to expect this to just be forgotten as if its nothing is not an effectual solution.
