1. How is the American Dream characteristic of American ideals and philosophy? What are the differences between the materialistic and the idealistic values associated with the American Dream?
– American dream is a belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society .These characteristic made American work hard which lead America to develop amazingly in short time. There are really big differences between the materialistic and idealistic values associated with the American Dream. Materialistic value associated with the American dream is a belief that all thought and actions are mainly caused by objects. The only thing matters in the world is objects. For instance, new car is over friendship. However, idealistic values are the belief that you can be happy as long as you are with the people who you love and living in peace.
2. What was happening economically and socially in the United States in 1949? Was it fairly easy or difficult to get a job? What was America’s standing in the world?
– America suffer a huge recession from November 1948 to October 1949. During the recession, the GDP of the united states fell 1.7% and the unemployment rate reached a peak for the cycle of 7.9%. many people regard that the main cause of the recession is the aftermath of the end of World war 2. According to the rate, the economy of America was falling rapidly and drastically, so it was very hard to get a job in 1949.
3. What is your definition of salesman? How is a salesman different from someone in another occupation? What attitudes do you think a salesman should have to be successful? What attitudes would hinder him?
– Salesman is a man whose job is selling things in shop or directly to customers. Salesman is different from someone in another occupation. If others work in business that does not belong to them, salesman makes his own business. Salesman should be focusing on his work, be responsible with what he is doing, and persuade the consumers with reliability to become successful. Being lazy and lying to the consumers, would hinder him.
4. What effect do the expectations of parents have on the behavior of their children? In what ways might parental expectations be beneficial? In what ways might they be detrimental?
– Children spend a lot of time with their parents. Also, they learn how to behave from their parents. Therefore, the expectation of parents would be affected to their children even if the parents don’t want to make an impact on them. it could be beneficial or harmful to their children. If their children try to come up to the expectation of their parents, then it could be kind of motive power to make them work diligently. But if the parents put the children too hard due to their expectation, children would be out of the track or get some problem to communicate with their parents.
