I chose my grandmas best friend who is a flight attendant. I asked all my questions through a voice call and got some really great answers. I originally contacted a realtor in my area and unfortunetly didnt get answers to my questions in time.
In the end I’m really glad I got to ask about one of my two future jobs. I’ve always wanted to be a realtor but a flight attendant is a new oppertunity I’d also enjoy.
Why is she passionate about her job or role? Pat loves to have people in her life, she finds being a flight attendant makes her want to go to her job, to show up. Unlike boring office jobs it’s fun, and different every time she steps foot on an airplane.
To get to where she is today Pat has taken many tests, exams, and has training every yr to do her job. Unfortunetly she had small kids at the beginning so her schedule was pretty erraticle.
What advice would she give to someone interested in being a flight attendant? Pat would say to look after your health, be prepared for time zones etc, and to look after your body.
What are Pats roles? Being, and working in a team, with anywhere from 2-15 ppl on each team in a flight, she has to be able to adapt and work with new people. Pat gets an assigned position, and her main job is safety on the flight.
What does Pat think the best part of her job is? She said meeting people from all over world, and learning different culture.
Has she always wanted to do this as a job? Funny story: She actually wrote in her grade 12 annual that she was going to be a flight attendant, she wasnt one not till 24 though.
3D Art Inquiry planning 1
I would like to experiment with clay, I’m not 100% sure yet but I’d like to try making a sort of vase and having butterflies and bees on top. To get started I definetly need to work more with clay and getting the hang of it. The purpose of this project for me is to bring butterflies in, it’s a common interest with my grandma and I, and I’d like to create something that captures that feeling of loving butterflies together, because it brings us closer. As well as bees because it’s my mom and I’s thing. The end idea is to create a vase for each of us and then buying flowers to keep in them, reminding eachother of each of us. The challenges I may face in this project could be too many ideas, not being able to stick to one plan, maybe it’s just looking harder than I originally thought. This week on Friday I will start experimenting with clay and idea’s to set myself up for the following week. I can either show the project to my teacher/ or classmates, or submit a picture of the finished result.
How we can make crops survive without water..
1) DEFINE: This video explains the impacts and challenges with climate change and crops growing. It also included some interessting points such as resurrection plants- adding water to dry plants bringing them back to life within 12-24 hours. As well as growing only in the rainy season- at the end producing seeds.
2) DISCOVER: One of my biggest questions was what vegetables don’t need high amounts of water. From my research I came up with lima, and pole beans. Corn, black eyed + field peas, edible amaranth, quinoa, mustard greens, okra (lady fingers or ochro), summer squashes, sunflowers (their seeds are edible), specific types of tomatoes, black diamond watermelon, and most herbs. I also wanted to know how much and if we could eat less water. According to my research 90% of freshwater we consume is used up by animals, and growing crops.
3) DREAM:
-making the problem known (the limit of water); more people finding out = more resources and research going into the problem
-grow our own food
-catch rainwater

Bag of change
PREFACE:
In this lab activity, you will mix 3 unknown substances together in a bag and observe the changes that occur. There will be both chemical changes and physical changes. Observation skills are crucial for this lab investigation. Watch for changes in state (solid, liquid, gas), colour (use noun-colour description), volume (mL), temperature, and anything else you can detect. Do not smell any of this substances please. This is a dangerous experiment do not get any substances on your skin. We will wear our goggles throughout the entire lab time!
MATERIALS: PLEASE NOTE WHMIS LABELS AND ACCORDING SAFETY

PROCEDURES:
GOGGLES ARE DONNED
& NOT REMOVED UNTIL EVERYONE’S LAB CONCLUSION!!!!
Add one spoonful of Chemical A (sodium bicarbonate) on the left side of the zip-lock bag. Describe and record the properties for Chemical A.
The baking soda is very white and powdery compared to the calcium chloride
What is it’s formula?
NaHC03
List some of the uses of this chemicals?
Baking and cleaning
Add 1 spoonful of Chemical B (Calcium chloride) on the right side of the zip-lock bag. Do not mix the chemicals. Describe and record the properties for Chemical B.
Looks like Styrofoam
What is it’s formula?
CaC12
List some of the uses of this chemicals?
It’s used for treatment for low levels of calcium
- How is chemical B different from Chemical A?
Baking soda is used as a leavening tool for baking, but Calcium Chloride absorbs moisture.
- Look and describe Chemical C (Bromothymol blue). Record your observations in the space provided below.
Its blue and a thicker consistency
It ended up turning yellow
What is it’s formula?
C27H28Br2O5S
List some of the uses of this chemicals?
It’s used for measuring the presence of carbonic acid in a liquid
Now you are ready for the observations of change.
- Mix a small amount, not all of it, Chemical A with Chemical B in the middle zip-lock bag. Record observations. Paste a photograph in the space below.
- Nothing really happened with chemical A and B together.
- Add 10 drops of chemical C into a plastic bag. QUICKLY remove as much air as possible and then seal it up. In the first 30 seconds, squeeze the bag in various places to mix all of the chemicals. What do you observe? Take a photograph and if possible video recording.
As soon as they all mixed the mixture turned yellow and it started foaming.
- Detect any temperature changes with your hand. What do you feel?
Suddenly the bag was very hot, and then it became very cold.
After 2 minutes thoroughly record any new observations. Include a photograph in the space below. In the space below add at least two photographs of your zip-lock bag.
- When you are finished, open the zip very slightly and discard the plastic bag. Discard the UNSEALED bag in the correct discard. DO NOT take off your goggles until everyone in the room has completed the lab.
- What evidence of chemical change did you observe in the bag?
At first adding chemicals a and b did nothing, but after adding the blue liquid the baking soda expanded and the bag filled with air.
- What physical changes did you see? Answer in complete sentences.
When we added both chemicals the substance changed from powder to a yellow liquid putty. It started out more like a powder and as time passed it changed from solid to liquid and blue to yellow. It also got very hot and cold.
Digital Footprint
Milana’s Digital Footprint
Digital footprints aren’t talked about enough.
Yes, technology is great, until digital footprints are brought up. You can become someone completely unrecognizable. It’s too easy to hide behind the screen.
How might your digital footprint affect your future jobs?
-Well, if say the person applying for the job has a history of bullying online, posts something inappropriate, or, that could hurt someone else. There is a good chance the other workers or even boss in the company, might not allow them to work at that company because in the job there might be a level of social skills needed in talking, and working with other people such as clients, or coworkers. So, if the workers or boss see their digital footprint, they might not want to have that type of person in their workplace with their history of posts online.
-Or, on the other hand the individual applying might have a great online history, which might push them over the edge to get the job. Say, if there is an opportunity to promote the company, draw more clients and workers in, that could work to their benefit.
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe:
-For starters, I’d suggest keeping only close friends, family, and people you trust on your accounts. The last thing you want is everything in your personal life all over the internet.
-Think before you post. Think how it’ll impact the lives of others, how people will view you after, what and how future friendships, relationships, and job opportunities will see it. If you have to ask yourself if it’s a good idea to post it, it probably shouldn’t be posted.
-Ask before you post. Before you post, ask your friends, family, anyone else who might be in the picture/video and make sure they agree. Posting something you haven’t been given consent to doesn’t point a good light on you.
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
-I would say to pass on that it’s never just you, or your friend who sees it, you have to be careful what you put out on the internet, because it’s the internet, once it’s out there it’s almost impossible to get back.
