The man allegedly hurled racially charged obscenities at her, ripped off her hijab and then slapped her in the face. Of all the passengers on the train, Fadel believes she was singled out because of her religion.
This is an example of people being discouraged for portraying their religion because in this specific article the person now feels unsafe and targeted because of her religion.

The following article from CBC is a good representation of multiculturalism in Canada. In Vancouver there was a Chinese New Year celebration this shows that people can still maintain there culture in a different place/setting like Canada.
This is an example of people being proud of their culture and being able to express that in a safe environment.
