Abuse Role-Play – PE9

I showed my growth in Social Competencies by doing the Drug Abuse PE project. I showed this by bringing the camera and filming the video. It was my job and responsibility to remember to bring the camera and also to edit and send the video to everyone. One way I can improve is by writing parts of the script as well.

1. What are the influences involved in your role-play? (i.e., difference of opinion, going against your values, pressure from friends, pressure from a dating partner, etc.)

-Going against friends

-Telling your friends off

-Not being afraid to tell them what’s wrong.

2.

Scene 1:

Eunice/Jieun: [Sitting down counting money]

Eunice/Jieun: (sighs)

Eunice: What are we going to do? We need money for the party this weekend

Jieun: I don’t know. Is there a way to get money fast?

Eunice: (hmmm…) Oh! I know! What if we sell prescription drugs to students at school?

Jieun: That’s a great idea!

Eunice: I have some at home, and I know a student who we can sell it to. Meet me today at 5?

Jieun: Sounds like a plan

Scene 2:

Eunice and Jieun selling prescription drugs to Michaela.

Michaela hands them the money.

{Ryder and Andisha come into the scene}

Ryder: What’re you guys doing?

Eunice and Jieun show looks of surprised that they got caught

Jieun: Oh.. Hey Ryder…

Eunice: Nothing. Nothing at all

Andisha: Are you guys earning money by selling stuff again!

Ryder: We told you to stop doing that!

Jieun: What’re we suppose to do then, huh!?

Eunice: Not only will we get money, it’s becoming a great business.

Jieun: Maybe you should join us

Andisha: What! No, we’re not taking part of whatever shady business you have

Ryder: Maybe you should stop this nonsense and find a part-time job instead.

Andisha: Think about your future career, you won’t have one if you keep doing this

Jieun: Maybe their right Eunice

Eunice: Yea, I guess

Ryder: We’ll help you find a job and help you spend the money on useful thing

3. Explain how your conflict/issue was resolved. What skills were used to resolve this conflict/issue?

Our problem was resolved by telling the characters that what they are doing is wrong and that it will impact their future. The skills they use talking peacefully, we’re calm and reasonable.

4. How would using these skills make the person in the role-play more resilient?

They were resilient by talking calmly to the other people and being reasonable without upsetting them and showing them what they were doing wrong.

Biotechnology – Designer Babies

PUBLISH

We will publish our project most likely in the future. We want to use social media to share our work possibly. We will show people the pros and cons of designer babies through things like Instagram, TikTok and more but that is still out for debate.

DEBRIEF

The process for this project went smoothly. We first did the graphic organizer, adding all of our information. Next, we typed it all up into a Sway. From there, we re-arranged, corrected and cleaned up the info. Lastly, we added photos, made stacks and overall just made it look cool. One thing I would do differently if I were to do this again is to skip the paper organizer and just type straight into the laptop. The paper to digital process took longer than we had hoped and since both of us aren’t the fastest typers, it ate up a lot of valuable time.

Stop Motion-Mitosis

This video is about Mitosis. It is a stop motion project.

Michaela Bailey & Karen Beattie

Core Competencies

Questions:

We chose to do the Mitosis because we didn’t think we would have time to do miosis. Initially, we were planning to but decided against it. We were correct. We had just enough time to complete the stop motion. The most challenging piece was getting it all together. We didn’t do a fantastic job of communicating outside of school to work and it set us back a little. The easiest part of making this was editing in the phases. We used Capcut to add in the names of each phase and it was very quick and very simple. We could improve the stop motion. It was slightly off and it felt very rushed. There were times when we had to go back almost a whole phase because we noticed something was in frame for a while. The main challenge is that we handed in our assignments late. we didn’t have enough class time to do the voice-over beforehand and we both had no free time to do it after school. Next, time, I will try and do the voice-overs through videos so that we can do them even if we aren’t together. Mitosis is very important because, over time, cells get damaged or tired and need to be replaced. if it didn’t, it would lead to a lot of issues. Things wouldn’t be able to grow. Miosis is important because it creates diversity and is essential for sexual reproduction.

Explore Math Reflection

I choose the Möbius Strip video. I choose this video because I already know a little bit about them, and they are very cool and wanted to know more about them. To understand how it works, it uses “abstract topological space.” I understand how it works and I remember a while back I was messing around and discovered it on my own and thought it was cool. I used a small strip of paper and traced along the surface and was amazed at how I had to do more than one circle to complete the loop. The content of the video makes a lot of sense and was easy to follow. The visuals showed exactly how it worked. I am curious what would happen if you did it with more shapes, like a triangle or square. Will you get more edges? More surfaces? What happens if you were to cut it.

I also watched a video on a cube fitting through a copy of itself. I chose this video because a while back, I would watch this show called brain games. One of the episodes included a box with another box inside of it. They then switched it so that the box that was on the outside was on the inside. The video reminded me of that series. To understand how this works, it uses geometry. This is a little hard for me to understand but after they showed how it works visually, I understood it. This really blew my mind because I would not have even thought about rotating the cube. They really thought outside of the box on that one. I wonder if you could do something similar using a pyramid or a hexagon as that is what the shadow of the rotated cube was.

Another video I watched was the chaos game. I choose this video because the concept of chaos seems really cool to me and I want to learn more and try to understand it better. Fractals are “infinitely complex” patterns that are similar. Since a few years ago I have known what fractals are and this definitely made me want to watch this video more as well. The math they use is called fractal mathematics although I may be wrong. I really do not understand what had to happen for it to become a fractal because in my mind, this should not be possible but once I try it for myself, it starts making sense. This is probably my favourite video out of the ones I have seen. I wonder what would happen if instead of it randomly choosing a point if it had to move in a circle so that it was not random. I think that it will not change at all, but I can be 100% sure.

Krypton

=========================================================================================

Reflection:

Some questions i needed to research for my project were “are krypton from DC and the one on the periodic table the same?” and “why is krypton called the hidden one?”. Familiar tools I used was google and  office365. I have never used Sway before so that was very new to me. When we first got the assignment, i started researching about my element. I wrote down questions and draw diagrams for what i should add into my sketchbook. This helped me organize my work. The prosses overall was very smooth and wasnt very stressful but if i were to do this again, i would try and get more information.

Grammar Video Project – “Run-on Sentences”

Click here for our Youtube Video.

Our topic for English is “run-on sentences”. First, we asked, “what is a run-on sentence”? A run-on sentence is two complete sentences or ideas that are incorrectly joined. An easier way to think about it is to imagine that you go diving underwater. You use sentences to dive further down, and you occasionally need to stop for air. Otherwise, you’ll drown. As you get deeper and deeper into your sentence, you must take a breath, or what’s called “adding punctuation.” So how do you fix your punctuation so you won’t drown? It’s pretty simple once you get the hang of it. You can fix your breathing intervals where punctuations should be located by knowing where an idea stops, or when you feel lightheaded. It can be called a “run-on sentence” or just a plain mess of writing, a sentence without any proper punctuation is just confusing. If the reader can’t understand your writing, then your meaning is lost. In our video, we made up a lot of examples to practice just to make sure you understand the concept. I hope this is a good explanation so you know what a run-on sentence is. Here is an example: “I have to go to the store I need to buy bread.” Here there are two independent clauses with no punctuation. Clause One: I have to go to the store. Clause Two: I have to buy bread. So the correct version would be “I have to go to the store. I need to buy bread.” Now the two sentences function as separate sentences.

Which one is the run-on sentence?

1. Mark got a brand-new phone for his birthday however he can’t figure out how to set it up.

Mark got a brand-new phone for his birthday however, he can’t figure out how to set it up.

Option 2: Communication

We used Word to document all of our notes. We put the links under each point. We used Audacity to record and edit our podcast. For communicating outside of school, we used Snapchat as we all had it, and was very efficient. It worked very nicely and everything was organized properly. It all turned out great!
