Kilauea is an active shield volcano found on the island of Hawaii (the big island). It is the largest active volcano in the world. Constant lava flow out to the ocean has created new coastline for the island, but has also destroyed homes in its path. 70% of Kilauea’s surface is less than 600 years old, and more is being created every day by lava. This volcano is South-East of the massive Mauna Loa volcano.
